@Cal_OES is prepositioning firefighting personnel and equipment in advance of forecasted fire weather conditions in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. Beginning Friday morning and lasting through the weekend, this proactive approach has proven to be a critical component of California’s wildfire response strategy, reducing response times and containing fires before they escalate into major incidents.

Protection orders work.
In the first three years after GVROs were implemented in California, they helped prevent 58 mass shootings.
During that same time, no suicides occurred among people who were served with a GVRO.

At every stop, one message remained clear: strong partnerships and close collaboration with local communities are key to preparedness.

As Wildfire Preparedness Week concludes, Paradise continues to serve as a powerful example of resilience and recovery after the 2018 Camp Fire. It also serves as a reminder for fire-prone communities to harden homes, create defensible space, and stay prepared ahead of another high-risk fire season.

Here’s the truth about wildfire preparedness in California:
Most people think about it after.
After the evacuation order.
After the power goes out.
After they’re sitting in a car with no plan.
Yesterday, local, state, and federal leaders gathered to talk about how we can change that. And it starts with us—and it ends with YOU:
✔ Looking up your evacuation zone
✔ Packing go-bags with your family
✔ Walking your property and checking on your defensible space
✔ Calling the neighbor who probably hasn’t thought about this yet
You don’t need to be an expert to be prepared for wildfire. You just need to start.

Today I joined my partners from the @SBCFireInfo, @fs_usda, @Cal_OES to address the ongoing threat of #wildfire across California. We toured a fuel reduction project funded by a #CALFIRE grant in Lompoc. Initiatives such as this significantly contribute to the well-being and safety of our communities.
