The more I think about it, the more I understand why Arsenal are looking at Ezri Konsa. At first, I wasn't a fan of the move. I felt there were younger options with more long-term upside, and naturally my first thought was, "Why not just trust Mosquera?" But when you look at the bigger picture, it starts making a lot more sense. The reality is that William Saliba's injury is a massive concern. If reports are accurate and he's set to miss around five to six months, Arsenal cannot afford to gamble on just one replacement. Yes, Mosquera can cover at right centre-back, but people are forgetting one important detail: he also struggled with injuries last season. Expecting him to stay available throughout such a demanding campaign is a huge risk. If he suffers another setback, Arsenal could find themselves in exactly the same position they're trying to avoid. That's where Konsa comes in. He's Premier League proven, understands the intensity of the league, and his versatility is a huge advantage. He can comfortably play both at right centre-back and right-back whenever needed. That's exactly the type of profile Arteta values—players who can solve multiple problems with one signing. I know some fans are focused on his age, but honestly, I don't see 29 as an issue here. He's not being signed to replace Saliba for the next five or six years. He's being signed to provide stability during Saliba's absence and then become an experienced squad option once Saliba returns. Every top club needs reliable players who can step in without the team's level dropping significantly. Would I like the fee to be lower? Absolutely. The reported valuation is expensive, but I still believe Arsenal can negotiate it down to something more reasonable. If they manage that, I actually think this becomes a sensible signing rather than a panic buy.
