Checkmate! ♟️🏆 The results from the House Chess Festival are in, and it was a strategic showdown for the books! After some intense matches and serious focus, here is how the leaderboard looks: 🥇 Hollowell: Taking the top spot with a massive 40 points! They secured the overall individual winner and boasted two of the three players who tied for 2nd place. Talk about a powerhouse performance! 🥈 Glegg & Bennett: A hard-fought battle from both houses, finishing in a dead heat with 10 points each. Huge congratulations to all our players for their sportsmanship and brilliant moves. Whether you were playing a Sicilian Defense or hunting for that back-rank mate, you made your houses proud!

Thinking about a career in medicine? 🏥✨ We were thrilled to host Medentors recently! They delivered an incredibly insightful session for our prospective Year 11 and 12 Medical Students, breaking down the complexities of the medical school application process. Applying for medicine is a marathon, not a sprint, and having expert guidance makes all the difference. But the support doesn't stop there! 📅 Save the Date: June 2026 Medentors will be returning to Calday for a full day of intensive workshops. This session will be a deep dive into the two most critical pillars of your application: Personal Statements: Crafting a narrative that stands out to admissions tutors. UCAT Preparation: Strategy and practice for the University Clinical Aptitude Test. Huge thanks to the Medentors team for inspiring our future doctors! 🩺💉

Final day of Careers Week 2026 and what a brilliant week it has been! A number of students including our school's Podcast Group and Careers Ambassadors in both Year 8 and 9 enjoyed a full day of podcasting workshops with Richard Leighton and Jay Thakkar from the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Liverpool. Students got an introduction to podcasting, discovered more about the different forms of podcasting, how to set up and run a podcast and how to edit a podcast. Students then had the opportunity to record their own 5-minute podcast, which were carefully edited and shared with the rest of the group. Later in the day a brand new episode of the 'Kids Interview Entrepreneurs' podcast was recorded in the school's Art Department. Students interviewed Craig G Pennington, the chief executive and co-founder of Future Yard CIC, a community music venue and music sector skills hub located in Birkenhead, Wirral. We look forward to hearing the finished podcast when it is available in the coming months. A big thank you to Craig for his time and to Richard and Jay for leading this fantastic workshop with our students. That's a wrap on Careers Week 2026!

🚀 High-Flying Innovation at Calday! ✈️ Yesterday, our Year 8 students swapped their usual pens and paper for passports and prototypes as we hosted The Inspirational Learning Group for the National Careers Challenge! The challenge? To design the "Airline of the Future." 🌍✨ The entire year group was off-timetable for the day, diving headfirst into the world of aviation, branding, and sustainability. From eco-friendly fuel solutions to high-tech cabin designs, the level of creativity and business savvy on display was truly first-class. We weren't alone in the hangar, either! Our fantastic Careers Ambassadors—who took home the win last year—were on hand all day to mentor the teams, share their expertise, and keep the energy high. Highlights of the day included: 💡 Innovative branding and logo designs. 🎤 Professional pitches that would give Dragon's Den a run for its money. 🤝 Incredible teamwork and problem-solving skills. A huge thank you to The Inspirational Learning Group for such an engaging session, and a massive well done to all our Year 8s. The future of flight is looking very bright (and very Calday)! #CaldayGrange #NationalCareersChallenge #FutureLeaders #AviationInnovation #TILG #CareersEducation

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the dedication behind the scenes. All four players have masterfully balanced the intense demands of their A-Level studies with an elite-level commitment to their sport. Our entire school community was given the opportunity to attend throughout the school day. Our students threw themselves into the event, engaging with our visitors, asking well thought out questions and bagging a freebie or two! A number of our visitors commented on how polite and respectful our students were. A massive thank you to all the engaging stall holders who attended the event this year!

A very busy day 2 of Careers Week here at Calday! Our Year 10 cohort attended their Mock Career Interviews. Prior to the interviews students completed a mock application form that was referenced during the interview. We were joined by over 30 local employers who kindly volunteered to assist with this event. The purpose of the event was for students to improve their employability skills, meet real employers and feel more prepared for the workplace when they embark on work experience in the summer term. Students spent between 25 - 30 minutes with their interviewer and following on from today they will be given detailed feedback about how they came across, that will help them in the future. Additionally, each interviewer selected their most successful interviewee on the day who will receive a certificate. Well done Year 10 on a fantastic set of interviews and a big thank you to all our outstanding interviewers for giving up their time.

We kicked off Careers Week 2026 with the return of our popular house competition - Dragons' Den. Earlier this year the school community was tasked with the mission of creating the next big business idea. Imagination, creativity and inventiveness was required by our budding entrepreneurs. After sifting through lots of entries, our six finalists pitched their bright business ideas in front our esteemed panel of Dragons'. This year we were joined by Mark Palios, Jill Jones, Alan Thompson and Adrian Hall. After a full day of engaging pitches and surviving the dreaded Q&A, our winners were crowned. Congratulations to 1st prize winners - Isaac and William in Year 8, followed by 2nd prize Harriosn in Year 7 and 3rd prize Anay, Josh and Maximilien in Year 9. A big well done to all our outstanding contestants who impressed the Dragons' with their sense of confidence, engaging presentations and ability to remain calm under pressure. A big thank you to our brilliant tech and stage team for their support with the event and of course our exceptional set of Dragons'!

Final Call: GCSE and A-Level Certificate Collection 🎓 A polite reminder to our Class of 2024 and Class of 2025 alumni: if you have not yet collected your official GCSE or A-Level certificates, please arrange to do so as soon as possible. These documents are the only formal proof of your qualifications and are essential for university enrolments, higher-level apprenticeships, and future employment background checks. Please be aware that schools are only required to retain unclaimed certificates for a limited time, after which they are securely destroyed. Replacing them via exam boards at a later date can be a costly and lengthy process. How to collect your certificates: We have made the process as simple as possible. Please head to the Examinations section of our school website for full details on: In-person collection times and ID requirements. Third-party collection (how to authorise a friend or family member to collect them for you). Postage options if you are no longer living in the local area. We are incredibly proud of everything you achieved during your time with us and want to ensure you have these vital documents safe and sound for your next steps.
