Last week, District 6 received a unique request. Kathy, a local Calgarian, contacted the CPS to ask if a member could attend the Southland Yard Bar & Table restaurant, located at 135 Southland Drive S.E., to wish her cousin, Larry, a happy birthday. 🎂 Larry, who was celebrating his 66th birthday & lives with a medical condition, was visiting from out of town and has a strong admiration for police. His family hoped that a brief interaction with officers would help make his birthday special. 👮‍♂️✨ Despite a steady volume of calls for service, District 6 Constables Rob Zadra & Ryan Petrovich made time to attend & help create a memorable birthday moment for Larry. 🚓 Both members took the time to engage with Larry & his family and provided him with a close look at the police vehicle, activated the emergency lighting & took photos with him in celebration of his special day. 🚨 😊 Happy birthday Larry! 🎉

🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 We have charged a 17-year-old male after an assault yesterday that resulted in a northeast high school going into lockdown. 📍 At around 12:05 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2026, police were called for reports of an ongoing incident at Lester B. Pearson High School, located in the 3000 block of 52 Street N.E. It was reported that a youth armed with a knife was smashing property, threating students & staff & had attempted to stab a student. The school was placed on lockdown as multiple calls continued to come in reporting the suspect’s movements within the school. Officers immediately flooded the area & within minutes entered the school, located the suspect & took him into custody. The lockdown remained in place as our officers continued to ensure the safety of students & staff as they assessed each room & area of the school. One student received minor injuries as a result of the assault & did not require transport to the hospital. The lockdown was released once our officers confirmed there were no additional victims or active threats to the staff or students. Investigators believe the attack was premeditated. 📌 As a result, one 17-year-old male, a former student of Lester B. Pearson High School, has been charged with: 🔹 1 count of attempted murder 🔹 1 count of uttering threats 🔹 1 count of mischief to property under $5,000 ℹ️ The youth cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. 💬 “Our officers responded within minutes & acted decisively to ensure the safety of every student & staff member. Thanks to their quick actions, the suspect was taken into custody without further harm. Incidents like this highlight just how important lockdown drills are. The preparedness of students & staff may well have saved lives.” — CPS Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky. 📣 Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police. On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, our District 6 Community Resource Officer Mountain Bike Team recovered 2 stolen bicycles & returned them to their rightful owners. ↩️ 🚲 One of the bikes belonged to a child whose family is new to Canada. Its return is more than recovering property, it helped restore a sense of belonging & support during a major life transition. ❤️ While the monetary value of stolen property can vary, the impact on victims is often significant & deeply personal. For many individuals, bicycles are essential for transportation, recreation & maintaining independence. The loss of these items can create inconvenience, financial strain & a sense of violation. These recoveries highlight our commitment to supporting victims of crime, regardless of monetary value. Every loss matters & every effort is made to reunite property with its rightful owner. 🤝 🔗 While this recovery was thanks to proactive police work, registering your bike with Bike Index is another tool that can help us return stolen bikes to their owners. He was wearing a maroon-coloured ‘Champion’ hoodie & black pants. Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the man is asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency number. Information? ☎️ CPS: 403-266-1234 🛑 @stopcrimeyyc ⚖ Case #: CA26099663 | 60971 🌐 newsroom.calgary.ca/seeking-public… ❗Safety tips for online sales The CPS encourages Calgarians to follow these tips to protect themselves when selling items through online classified websites: ✅ Meet in a safe, public place. If possible, arrange to meet a police station as a secure option. The Calgary Police Service has marked buy & sell zones at each District Office for these transactions. ✅ Check the buyer’s profile for red flags, such as personal photos, very few friends, minimal activity or recently created profiles. ✅ Verify contact information by asking for a phone number & making a direct phone call to ensure the number is legitimate. ✅ Use e-transfer rather than cash, as this discourages thieves who rely on quick cash transactions. ✅ Trust your instincts, if something feels off, you are under no obligation to proceed with the sale until payment has been made.

🚛 Between June 2 and 4, we inspected commercial vehicles at several high-traffic locations around Calgary. Over three days, CPS officers & colleagues from several other municipal and policing agencies pulled over 154 vehicles to ensure they complied with existing rules & regulations.   Of those 154 vehicles: 🔷 73 had critical defects, requiring the vehicles to be immediately placed out of service. (48%) 🔷 32 had major defects that required attention. (21%) 🔷 49 had no defects and passed inspection. (31%)   Let’s keep Calgary’s roads safe for everyone, no matter the size of their vehicle. Commercial vehicle drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles meet safety standards. Drivers should perform a safety check on their vehicles before starting their trip.
