Long COVID has surpassed asthma as the most common chronic illness among US children, impacting est. 6 million kids. JAMA Pediatrics outlines symptoms, different by age, from poor sleep & appetite in toddlers to fatigue, brain fog, & mood changes in teens hubs.ly/Q03pxzmC0

From this date six years ago. This many still die from covid per year in the US but I guess it isn't an incalculable loss now.

@voteheaux @deborahbrian @AzolaAlba That’s a wild minimization though - when is Covid not present since we see it in wastewater data year round irrespective of higher surge times? If this virus leaves people permanently disabled, why roll the dice with patients in clinical settings (especially high risk patients)

@deborahbrian @CaliforniaCodes @AzolaAlba When Covid isn’t surging, there’s also no magical need to have a mask on for every single second of interaction either. There’s cautious safety, & there’s overreaction. A tweet about a Dr. not having a mask on when you don’t know any context is pure overreaction & I mask DAILY.🤷🏾‍♀️

Over this timeline 🫠 Explain to me like I’m 3 why an MD treating severe Long Covid doesn’t mask as standard protocol? And why would I get blocked for asking about this vs the MD engaging discussion to explain her rationale (when it directly impacts patients treated) @AzolaAlba

@RevivalCare @DrNice2026 @RndmStreetMedic @chaitrovert @AzolaAlba Seems simple enough, right? They could also acknowledge that med schools don’t teach sufficient skills on PPE, airborne infection prevention, chronic illness caused by infections, and that they don’t have sufficient understanding of COVID’s current longterm effects

@DrNice2026 @RevivalCare @RndmStreetMedic @chaitrovert @AzolaAlba I’m curious why you’re shutting down patients & longcovid advocates for asking doctors (directly / personally) treating longcovid patients maskless? You mask - good 👍🏼 why does it bother you to question your peers that are largely unmasked knowing the risks involved?

@voteheaux @AzolaAlba Honey, the woman doesn’t mask at conferences - she’s like 99% of her MD peers that seem to think their ego will prevent longterm severity from an airborne virus proven to cause a myriad of chronic health complications. a medical degree doesn’t inherently equate to community care

@CaliforniaCodes @AzolaAlba Sweetie, did it ever occur to you that they briefly took their masks off for a picture, & your accusatory tweet towards a stranger quickly put you in a “I don’t know this person & never want to be made aware of their presence again” category? They don’t have to explain 💩 to you.

@DrNice2026 @AzolaAlba being indoors without a mask on exposes you & others to covid infection, an airborne virus. knowing the longterm risk of this disease, why TF would you unmask indoors? Covid doesn’t just pause spreading for a 3 min pic 🤦🏻‍♀️she doesn’t mask indoors at conferences so she’s a 🤡

@AzolaAlba I guess where I’m lost in the current state of the (ongoing pandemic) is how a knowledgeable resource like you & a patient who has suffered tremendously would not wear a KN/N95 in an indoor space amongst others, period. You must know Covid has a high rate of asymptomatic spread?

Five years ago, she got COVID. By November 2021, she came to our clinic with disabling #LongCOVID symptoms. Today, for the first time in years, she told me she feels closer to her pre-COVID baseline. Closer to herself again. 🧵

Phase 2 VOC testing of the dry rub tattoo on our KN95 mask is in. Phase 1 (filtration) barely changed. You can rewatch that test on the original thread. The next concern was: are the tattoos releasing VOCs into our KN95 mask? So we paid SGS, one of the most trusted labs in the world, to run a 51-chemical panel using GC-MS on the actual @WellBeforeHQ product. Benzene. Not detected. Methylene chloride. Not detected. Chloroform. Not detected. Toluene. Not detected. Every single one: not detected. So, should @WellBeforeHQ launch official dry rub tattoo's for our KN95 and N95 masks as a real product? 😎😷

This is the correct protocol for 2 reasons: 1) N95’s are optimized to filter *incoming* air. Surgical masks are optimized to prevent contaminating the environment when exhaling. 2) The hantavirus 80–120 nm in body diameter. By comparison, COVID was 60-80 nm in body diameter (excluding spike proteins) While that may not seem dramatic it means a very large difference in actual mass of the pathogen. The larger and heavier pathogen size means it needs droplet vapor to carry, not just air. So the person you think is infected, wearing a surgical mask is effective as it traps droplets on exhalation. The staff wear n95s. The patients don’t. If someone is already infected there would be no statistical difference between them wearing an n95 and a surgical mask, so you do not need to waste the better equipment. In a quarantine facility the staff change over PPE and sterilize equipment between patient rooms, so there is zero risk of cross patient exposure. So only the staff need an n95.
Caroline Orr Bueno, Ph.D@RVAwonk

Omg even at the National Quarantine Unit where the hantavirus contacts are, they’re still only using surgical masks when people in quarantine interact with the medical staff. If one of them gets infected, you’ll know why.

@AngeeGabs Welcome back to the science backed, community care side 💕 Zero illness in 4 years since upgrading to well fitted KN/ N95s & wearing always inside public spaces + crowded outside spaces. Our kids deserve to have their longterm health protected - Covid is taking from so many 😞

I quit masking a few years ago, bc most people had & I was worried about comments in public tbh (which I’ve yet to receive) I started this year, & honestly, it’s just nice not get sick? I didn’t realize how much I got the cold and flu before masking. It’s so nice!

Thought this was a satirical account article from @TheVertlartnic , but then my brain went 🫠 Not even sharing the link because it’s a trash tabloid not worthy of clicks.

This is outrageous.. Not a single person on my flight is masked up while we’re in the middle of a double pandemic (Covid + Hantavirus). I politely informed the flight attendant that this is a super spreader event. She just shrugged and walked away. I've already filed a formal complaint with the FAA and CDC. This is reckless and cannot stand. Masks save lives, the science is settled on that.
