AOC: No. The president demolished the East Wing of the White House, a historic jewel of the American people, and he started to build this ballroom long before any incident. He also promised the American people that this was going to be built with private dollars, so the idea that they are trying to change the rationale for this doesn’t add up. The White House long had facilities for hosting, which also included the East Wing of the White House prior to them bulldozing the crown jewel of the American people. I don’t believe, in an era when they are jacking up costs, when they’re gutting everyone’s healthcare, and when people cannot afford their rent and their mortgages, that we should be using our treasure to build an ornate castle on a scale that is unprecedented and unbelievable. I’m sure that anybody who is against waste, fraud, and abuse would agree with me on that.

My family and I watched the 60 Minutes interview with Donald Trump and Norah O’Donnell last night, and we were shocked. Seeing a president speak to a woman journalist with that level of contempt — and a clear allergy to facts — is disturbing, though at this point not unexpected given his pattern of behavior. But that is the problem. Because when that level of disrespect from the highest office in the country repeats itself, it starts to trickle down into our culture and define what power looks like, shaping how boys and plenty of men see women and girls and what they come to accept as normal behavior.

The Republican gaslighting on ‘violent rhetoric’ is ludicrous. Yes, Democrats call Donald Trump a threat to democracy. He still denies the 2020 election and a lot of his party has gone along with it. There’s a reason Republicans hide from reporters - they can’t answer for Trump dancing on the graves of his political enemies or calling Democrats ‘the enemy within’, ‘traitors’, or the ‘party of hate, evil, and Satan.’ And for those that actually care about reality, the majority of political violence comes from the right. It’s clear as day.

Even after paying off the president last year, ABC is once again under attack by this administration. This should be a lesson to all who capitulate to the president: You cannot buy his favor, you can only rent it.

Imagine calling Renee Good and Alex Pretti “domestic terrorists” and calling immigrants “animals” then turning around and telling people they need to “tone down their rhetoric.”

What an absurd statement. Political violence is NEVER acceptable. PERIOD. What Cole Allen did was reprehensible and we're grateful the President was uninjured. This finger pointing from people like Katie who haven’t just tolerated, but amplified, Trump’s dangerous rhetoric is offensive. The President has openly celebrated the deaths of his political opponents, called Democrats and immigrants "vermin," "demonic" and "evil" "animals" who are "poisoning the blood of our country." He regularly uses violent language, threatens to arrest and jail his political enemies — while describing the attempt to overthrow our democracy on January 6 as a “beautiful thing.” The same folks cheering Trump’s threats don’t get to rewrite the narrative now.

You have got to be kidding me. The State Department is putting Donald Trump’s scowling face on the U.S. passport. His signature in gold. Superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, a document literally written to get away from this exact behavior. No sitting president has ever done this.
