@3stddev @rpondiscio The children of terrible parents require more direct time with teachers. The way to achieve that is by producing a better student to teacher ratio. To do that, you need more classrooms and more teachers. Those things cost money. Hence public schools are underfunded.

Public education isn’t underfunded. The problem in NYC now (post COVID) is that there are too many retarded kids due to the higher ratio of retarded parents post COVID. There’s not much even a great teacher can do with a retarded kid. That’s just the truth. No amount of money can fix negligent parenting.

@CallerAngry @FrMatthewLC I'm intimately familiar with the "best" private schools. You're often not paying for top-flight instruction, but a top-flight environment, including motivated, easy-to-teach students, and parents who are remarkably compliant b/c they don't want to damage the brand.

@rpondiscio @FrMatthewLC I’m not arguing that it isn’t cost prohibitive. I’m telling you if you want to know what it costs to run a GOOD school, you need to look at the best private schools. If they could run their schools cheaper, they would. But to be great, that’s what it costs.
