@fireshoes @MTGJoe2 Sometimes I think about the thousands of words people used to get paid to write professionally to think on the design of standard in meaningful ways rather than dunks. This often even led to future Wotc design gigs. We lost so much as a community when content died and algos won

My team smashed it this weekend! The other Sam in my group made top 8 of the RC and will be joining us two of us already Qd at PT Amsterdam 🥳 Stoked for him! Two of us made the final draft in the LTQ today, with my teammate going out in the semis. Couldn't be prouder 😊

The draft was interesting. I stayed really open early and settled into a Jeskai Control deck. I lost a really close QF to another member of my draft community on Converge Control. I played a total of 4 creatures across both decks today 😅

Not very happy about Violent Outburst unban. I think one of Magic’s best aspects is how different games can be from each other, and cascade is basically the opposite of that. I like that they are going to shake things and finally oops all spells gets (sort of) banned in legacy.

I'm deep in the weeds testing for my RC this week, and standard is fascinating: 2-4 different sub-archetypes within each archetype, and ~17 different decks earned PT invites last weekend. There are imbalances, yes: a few cards, interactions, and colours that are very strong. 1/2

The meta looks “healthy” wrt total number of viable decks. The issue I have is the gameplay and play patterns feel very scripted and it feels impossible to win games on the draw against talent/boom or elf/cub. This isn’t standard, it’s pioneer or even extended.
