Caltrans Central Coast (District 5)

Travelers in both directions of Hwy. 154 will be moved on to a new traffic alignment on Friday, March 20, at approximately 3 pm. This traffic switch on Hwy. 154 will take place between San Antonio Creek Rd. and Painted Cave Rd. and travelers can anticipate 5-to-10-minute delays.

For the safety of the travelling public, Caltrans crews cleared an encampment site this week along US 101 near Lompoc, in Santa Barbara County, removing 20 cubic yards of debris. The six individuals impacted were offered assistance by our local social service partners.

Following a recent engineering and traffic survey, speed limits will change on 0.74-mile segment of Hwy. 17 between the Hwy. 1 interchange and the Pasatiempo Dr. interchange. Northbound limits move from 65 to 60 mph in this segment while southbound limits move from 55 to 60 mph.

The official ribbon cutting for the Avila Roundabout celebrated notable partnerships between SLO County, Caltrans, and SLOCOG. Caltrans D5 Director Scott Eades shared that drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are already enjoying improved safety through this coastal gateway.

Thanks to the team at CHP Santa Cruz for their timely reminder about a closure of a northbound lane on Highway 17 today. Regular maintenance to reduce fire fuels along our highways helps enhance safety for the traveling public.

Travelers will encounter a full overnight closure of Highway 41, from the Hwy. 41/46 interchange to Highway 33, from Thursday, March 19 at 8 pm to Friday, March 20 at 8 am, for crews to make final rockslide repairs. Detour via Hwy. 46 and Hwy. 33 to add half hour to travel time.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY— A project to construct sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, and retaining walls on Highway 9 between Graham Hill Rd. and the San Lorenzo Valley schools complex continues with daytime and overnight traffic control.

Travelers will encounter a closure of the #2 (right lane) of northbound Hwy. 17, Monday, March 9 through Friday, March 13, from 9:30 am to 2 pm, between Granite Creek Rd. in Scotts Valley and upper Glenwood Dr. Crews to remove dead/dying brush, trees, and ladder fuels.

For the safety of the travelling public, Caltrans crews cleared an encampment site this week along US 101 near Salinas, removing 120 cubic yards of debris. The 8 individuals impacted were offered assistance by our local social service partners.

TRAVEL REMINDER: One-way reversing traffic control on Hwy. 41 west of Atascadero set for Thursday, March 5 from 9 am to 2:30 pm – between Cerro Alto Campground and Toro Creek Rd. Crews to process large tree downed during recent storms. Please allow extra time for your commute.

Travelers to encounter a closure of Hwy. 246 near Lompoc on Monday, March 2, between Hwy. 1 (E. Ocean Ave.) and Mission Gate Rd. from 10 am to 3 pm. Local residents and workers will be admitted to the closure area. Detour available via Purisima Rd. and H Street (Hwy. 1).

Travelers will encounter a closure of the #2 (right) lane of northbound Highway 1 between Rio del Mar Blvd. and State Park Dr. near Aptos on Saturday, February 28, from 5:30 am to 11:00 am, with delays of up to 15 minutes. Crews to perform pavement repairs and tree/brush removal

Caltrans Districts 4 and 5 are jointly developing the State Route 17 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan to address topics such as safety, reliability, and multimodal accessibility. The plan will set a corridor vision and identify potential transportation improvements.

Highway 1 at Regent’s Slide to open Friday, Feb. 20 at 4 pm, restoring through travel between Cambria and Carmel. Daytime traffic control with 20-minute delays starting Saturday, Feb. 21 as crews continue to work from the northbound lane to clear the catchment area. Travel safe!
