Crimson Desert is FINALLY releasing in 50 days on March 20th
The developers have released a ton of new information that is insanely exciting. If they nail it, this could be a potential GOTY contender.
Here are the highlights:
- NOT on Unreal Engine 5, uses their own engine
- Open world action-adventure, NOT an RPG so it doesn't seem to have dedicated level systems or dialogue options
- Three playable protagonists, each with unique abilities and skills.
- Open world map of "Pywel" is bigger than Red Dead 2, twice the size of Skyrim. Made up of 5 regions
- Sky islands can be explored. Similar ability to manipulate objects to Zelda's "Ultrahands"
- Cliff is the main protagonist, the two others can be used to do side content but the main story doesn't seem to involve them much
- You can chop down trees, burn the wood for warmth. Use water to conduct electricity in combat, and utilize different spells in different weathers for better effect
- Faction quests has you siding with different groups in the world, you can liberate certain areas from enemies in the world and factions will take over them afterwards.
- Rideable mechs and dragons, you can also just fly with magic
- Combat has full combos, different weapon types, unarmed combos, you can climb bigger enemies, and hunt animals in the open world.
- Day, time, location, and temperature are visible on mini-map so some survival mechanics may be involved
- World feels alive, NPCs in towns interact with each other, children running around, wind blowing
- You can steal chickens, lift crates, catch different animals
- NPCs react to your presence and make comments on the protagonist
- You can use enemies as bodyshields
- Major focus on immersive aspects, explore cities, talk to locals, have a drink at the local tavern, do side quests
- Rideable dragons, bears, raptors, and even mechas
- Buy a player home and live there
- Has a swinging system with grapple hook
- Challenging but not a Soulslike
- Wanted system and Police will chase you if you commit crimes
- NO romance
- You can capture enemies and turn them in for rewards
- You can climb and scale entire mountains if you wished
- PS5 Pro Enhanced, DLSS4 is supported on PC and they recommend an RTX 2080 for the best experience
- Game went gold last week, they are now in thefinal optimization phase
I seriously cannot wait for Crimson Desert, If they have truly nailed all aspects then this game is absolutely going to be a special one.
