@frankld79 @rhofford If your calving is spread out like ours with purebreds and commercials running together, I really like the calf guard option the last couple years. Plus you don’t need to run the cows through the chute in the winter

We are off to St. John’s in a few weeks time after becoming the Manitoba Provincial Champions yesterday.

@JerodMcDaniel Stay the course expanding by a few keeper heifers more every year or cull hard and keep very few replacements back to capitalize on this market.. wish we had a crystal ball to see how long this will last

We can trace back every animal in our inventory now right back to the ranch
Through the buyer who knows the seller
We capture the RFID tag to help with management now and thats easy

There is significant misinformation being shared on social media regarding CFIA’s proposed traceability regulations. CCA worked with provincial associations and other industry associations to provide input to ensure the regulations follow the Cattle Implementation Plan which was led by the cattle industry. No new regulations were implemented on January 1, 2026. CCA will continue to work with provincial members and governments to ensure that any proposed changes work for producers. We are calling for a pause to address the concerns that we are hearing.

Just because somebody does something different than you doesn’t make it wrong
Bale grazing is done for the year so for the next week or so, the cows can work on brush encroachment
By my math, the cow herd grazed for 275 days. Not bad. You can decide if we were starving them

Just thinking out loud, curious on what price it will really take to entice people to get back to being cow-calf operators…
Those still in it are like the Jedi, few and far between with old knowledge about how to run cows… also lots of cow guys went to yearlings years ago.

The ease with which cattle market is going up, like a slow grind higher, not an explosive over the top move…
Tells me we’re finally into actual price discovery mode, like a foot has been lifted off of back of the neck.
Something’s changed IMHO, but I don’t know exactly what.

Well we said at the end of the Broomgate pod that we hoped if we did the podcast nothing like the first Broomgate would happen again. Seems like the players are more on top of it and unified this time, we’ll see if World Curling answers. I’m gathering info and will report soon

@FlaschColton @cullenoncurling If you’re asking teams to stop using their new BP and Goldline heads that were made to compete with the 2023 Hardline foam , Hardline teams should stop using their 2023 foam then. That’s the line in the sand that isn’t being talked about. I’m all for dialing back the foam too

@cullenoncurling This is not an attack on any manufacturer at all. The whole point of this is to tone down the foams and have complete transparency when it comes to testing. This includes all current foams. This is something that could have been done a while ago but here we are now!
