@northgalis That the Unum became a living tower as part of her sacrifice was key to the aforementioned arc and her connection to the Quills, and their reason for being which we never got to touch on.

@northgalis Hey. Cam Rogers here. Lead writer from 2017-2024. Pretty much everything in Cetus and Fortuna I concepted, wrote and directed. The Unum and Quills had a whole arc they were designed around that tied to the Man In The Wall, which was abandoned in favor of always moving away.

@northgalis You’re right about that aspect of their culture taking cues from whaling. Also 19th century quarriers if I’m remembering correctly. Lots of shouts of ‘make fire’ followed by explosions, etc.

If the cycle of existence is roguelike, I wonder if a prior version of me laid on a thin mattress in a boarding house outside the green zone, listening to the thump of Taliban mortars restructure distant streets, and wished I'd gone to Finland instead. Or smiled, maybe. I dunno.

I'm work-for-hire on a project at the moment with strong Buddhist influences. One strain posits that we relive this life over and over, for whatever reason.

Istanbul, Turkey, 2013. Just a few days before the Taksim Square protests kicked off. We sat in cafes, speaking with locals. When anything political, especially regarding the president, came up voices dropped. I have never heard people speak so, so quietly.

I know a teleporter is just a suicide machine that consigns my family to live with a fabricated mockery of the person they knew, but I really don’t want to get on a four-hour flight.
