@CameronKeast Definitely! A great addition for all, but especially for runners to get the metabolic benefit of a big session without the impact stress of a 4hr run.

Why is the long ride so important? The long ride is important for the metabolic benefits that it brings. While, from an aerobic fitness standpoint it doesn't matter too much whether the muscle contractions & heartbeats happen as 4 x 1 hrs or 1 x 4hrs, there are significant metabolic shifts that occur during long sessions. During long tests in the lab, I have seen more than double the starting fat oxidation over 4 hours of testing - athletes starting at a low 4kcal/min burning elite levels of ~8kcal/min by the end of 4hrs on the erg! These metabolic changes simply don't happen over shorter sessions. Therefore, in order to maximize these adaptations of higher and higher levels of fat oxidation, it is important for the athlete to regularly go long.

@Timheming Imagine having the confidence to be going out at sub 3:00/km knowing that you hadn't been doing the run training needed to run that fast.

Alistair Brownlee said post-race that while he's been able to run 50-60km/week (not all of it slow) it's the lack of race-pace (3-3:10/km) running he's missing. He was 4min off on the run. Helps to underline fine line between being race fit & injured. 220triathlon.com/news/alistair-…

Very nice! I've had better luck thus far with the durability of Polar over Garmin, but I may have just got lucky/unlucky with my sample of each. One other thing that I've noted is the run dynamics seem to really drain the strap battery a lot quicker, so I'd turn those off when not looking at them.

@Timheming I am not sure anyone believes he only started in November. So if he was already juicing before working with Iden, even if you could spot that change in performance, it might not have been when Iden was able to have noticed.

A few comments on this interview saying how could Mikal Iden not know about L-carnitine/EPO/PEDs. Conversely, some coaches have messaged me to say they wouldn't know either. It depends on perspective/gullibility/cynicism. Delete as appropriate. 1/5 triathlete.com/culture/news/e…

A little more clarity - works with Mikal Iden. Won his first Ironman. 3 weeks later - THREE - wins $100k for a PTO victory. But, he only tried EPO AFTER. And, everyone else is clean bc he must have been acting alone. That’s some bullshit. triathlete.com/culture/news/a…

@thebricksession Funny that he said there was an investigation and people were interviewed to see if it was part of a bigger doping ring yet his coach posts something up acting like he's only just found out about the positive test.

I have just listened to Colin Chartier detailing why, and how he doped. It doesn’t matter if he did this 'alone", anyone associated with him will have a stain against their name/reputation regardless. People will be distancing themselves clean, or not. #pandorasbox

@DRTEHughes Fantastic, thanks! I happily use a bottle with just table sugar with some salt sometimes (I figure it's close enough to the ratio in maurten anyway) so this might be a decent upgrade.

First long (and hardish) run with the DIY hydrogel I.e Maurten gel. Worked like a charm. Zero stomach discomfort despite high carb intake ~100g 21k middle tempo section was 1.5 mins faster than last week too. Win win. (And the gel cost pennies to make) 🏃‍♂️💰🤑

@MsHeyens @PhilMathe79_PE @ElemPE1 @JoeyFeith @Cambs_PE Speak to some of the students but also you've got to build your why and purpose/aims of the program you're offering and share that, if you don't already. Seeing the bigger picture can help you and them in my opinion. Any particular game will get boring at some stage. Good luck!

@CameronKeast Well…..In the pipeline we could be running FIT elite training camps. Would be looking for local people who have knowledge of trails and routes to be coaches for cycling or running. Would need to be high level coaches though.
