Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (2025), has come into force, updating the first-generation limit to citizenship for people born or adopted abroad: bit.ly/3XVEaBb This bill • restores or provides access to citizenship to people born abroad to or adopted abroad by a Canadian parent before December 15, 2025 • going forward, will allow citizenship to be passed on beyond the first generation if the Canadian parent born or adopted abroad meets specific eligibility criteria No one will lose Canadian citizenship because of this new law, but citizenship can be voluntarily given up through a renunciation process.
