But TradFi’s involvement in RWA also brings the threat of centralized control of assets by financial elites - “You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy” Instead of rebuilding TradFi on the blockchain, we need an open, decentralized infrastructure for tokenizing and trading RWAs. Boson Protocol is solving a key problem in web3: how to handle commerce transactions for real-world assets using smart contracts — without a middleman - Boson lets you tokenize, transfer, and trade any physical asset - It's designed for commerce assets and uses an efficient 'optimistic' exchange mechanism. - Boson tokenises physical RWAs as rNFTs which can be traded or redeemed for the underlying physical. - It's pushing mass adoption by linking with e-commerce platforms like Woocommerce. 2/ Fermion Certain physical assets, however, can't simply be sent from buyer to seller. Some need a higher level of verification, like high-value assets (precious metals, diamonds, art, real estate, etc) - Fermion is built on top of Boson as a separate network with its token $FMION. - It enables verified tokenization and exchange of any physical RWA. - Fermion can fractionalize physical RWAs as F-NFTs, which can bridge into DeFi to access liquidity. - It’s launching later in 2024 into the $1T collectibles and art markets. 3/ The Challenge With Physical RWAs - Tokenising physical RWAs is challenging, especially making sure digital ownership equals physical control of the asset. - If you hold a token, you need assurance that in return you’ll receive the asset or your money back. Boson and Fermion are designed to handle these complexities for all types of physical RWAs 4/ How Boson + Fermion Work Together Together, Boson + Fermion form the Physical RWA Super-System: a decentralized infrastructure for tokenizing and exchanging physical RWAs. - All real-world assets are first tokenized via the Boson base layer. - Fermion then provides an additional level where certain assets can be verified (i.e. the asset sent to a trusted verifier) 5/ Physical RWA Super-System = DeFi for RWAs - The super-system changes the landscape of RWA management and exchange because it allows anyone to tokenize and sell RWAs or create applications on top without the need for centralized CeFi platforms or developing custom protocols. - Entrepreneurs can easily build RWA tokenization businesses by leveraging the system’s decentralized infrastructure and simply plugging in their assets - It brings RWAs on-chain with the same level of trust as native assets, enabling the inclusion of all types of assets into the economy, as well as transactions like borrowing, lending, speculation, arbitrage, etc. 6/ Final Thoughts With Blackrock CEO Larry Fink calling for "the tokenization of securities" and launching a new tokenization fund, it’s clear that RWA has massive potential. But despite the opportunities, there’s a real risk of centralized control of our assets and infrastructure. Boson sees this as a battle for ownership and with their Physical RWA Super-System they’re staying true to Satoshi’s original vision of a financial system owned and governed by its users, not the financial elites.
