Mental health services are in crisis. 873,117 under 24-year-olds were in contact with mental health services at the end of May in England - a 10% increase from the previous year. And the highest recorded number since records began in 2016. 377,017 under 18s are still waiting for their first contact with services. They have waited an average of 276 days to be seen, up from 200 days since last year. This needs to be a wake up call for our Government. Young people should not have to wait 250+ days to get the support they need. The Government says cutting waiting times is a priority. We need to see more evidence that applies to mental health services for young people. They should urgently roll out Young Futures Hubs in every local area – including a full mental health offer, where young people can get support on the day, without needing a GP referral or appointment. And they need to start addressing the drivers of poor mental health - like poverty and the education system. We need a Government that has the ambition it promised a year ago, one that knows it needs to work across Government and shows young people that it cares about their future and their mental health.

We're outraged and heartbroken by reports that at least 15 Palestinians, including eight children, have been killed in an Israeli strike. They were queuing for nutritional supplements outside of a clinic. Nowhere is safe in Gaza. Project Hope, an aid group who ran the clinic, say it was "a place of refuge... where people bring their small children, women access pregnancy and postpartum care, people receive treatment for malnutrition". The UK government must stop being complicit in these horrors by suspending all arms transfers to Israel. They must hold the Government of Israel accountable for the harm children have faced, as is demanded by their obligations under international law.
