@Adamkblat How the Canucks market is fascinating. During a rebuild, players come and go. Perhaps the see Ohgren as a key figure and marketable face
English

The #Canucks are using Liam Öhgren in a lot of their promotional items 👀.
English

@Naughty4Novotny This is a massive constraint. It will be difficult to evaluate RJ and the Sedins when they really don't have a chance to do their jobs.
English

This is exactly why the Canucks will never win with the current ownership
Taj@taj1944
PJ: "Word is it (offer) was substantially less than what he was already making in the OHL." OHL source: “Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of Canucks’ new hires are very low, even compared to OHL. And in Canadian (dollars)."
English

@steveroller7 I don't believe there will be a selling of the team either. It's too lucrative. It's tied into his other business endeavors, like the arena, nearby restaurants and real estate. He's done a great job out there.
English

@jabo_vancouver Great idea. Great way to have fun and market the team. Maybe donate the money to charity.
English

@ColeRichmond20 @mikeinthevalley @DhaliwalSports I agree if they are on the verge of going bankrupt.
They aren't on the verge of going bankrupt. Nowhere near. Like @mikeinthevalley said, you can argue that they are being prudent financially. Obviously, it affects their ability to win.
English

@CanukBigPicture @mikeinthevalley @DhaliwalSports Imminent potential personal financial peril of ownership partners unrelated to business operation should not impact business decisions though.
That’s where it becomes a problem.
Read the NOCC for the ongoing claim. They are facing serious personal expense.
English

The Canucks wanted a coach for Abbotsford. He picked Colorado instead | The Province theprovince.com/sports/hockey/…
English

@pleiadianJim @Sapsterr_ Unfortunately, they can be owners. They are not bankrupt and they meet NHL guidelines for ownership. They are nowhere near what happened in Phoenix...not even remotely similar.
English

@Sapsterr_ This is by far the best narrative to keep putting out there. Not that they are horrible or jerks or malicious, but that they simply can’t afford to be NHL owners. If nothing else, there’s a marginal chance their egos react and say “yes we are!”- and start spending more.
English

If they reduce their salary by another $8m, they'll only be $1.2m above the cap floor.
They would be ~ $4m below the 2027-2028 cap floor.
This, combined with the fact they refuse to pay coaches and staff in player development is further evidence that the Aquilini's cannot afford to be NHL owners.
These are the Vancouver Canucks, Canada's 3rd most major hockey market, and they're spending money like the Arizona Coyotes.
It's embarrassing. Sell the team.

English

@mysterion1313 @Sapsterr_ The Canucks may become more profitable than ever. Aquilini could find that cutting his operation costs so deeply makes it more profitable than when the team was a bit better.
English

@Sapsterr_ The worst part is the Canucks are very profitable! He’s raiding them for the other family businesses!
English

@Sapsterr_ Fans won't like it, but the Canucks are a business. The Aquilini's meet all NHL criteria for ownership. They can set their operating budget however they want.
The rebuild will obviously fail, RJ cannot work miracles with constrained budget. But fans can still cheer.
English

@mikeinthevalley @ColeRichmond20 @DhaliwalSports You would be correct, because business profitability is what drives the Canucks, not wins and losses. They are a business first, hockey team second.
English

@ColeRichmond20 @CanukBigPicture @DhaliwalSports I could also argue that an owner that continues to spend at a high level while revenues are declining is also, according to your definition, not doing their judiciary duty to the overall wellbeing of the team.
English

@ColeRichmond20 @mikeinthevalley @DhaliwalSports Fans often get this wrong. The business strategy dictates the team strategy, not the other way around.
English

@mikeinthevalley @CanukBigPicture @DhaliwalSports Revenue is fine.
The controlling ownership is facing significant imminent personal financial expense from the ongoing intra-family civil file, which will likely settle because they won’t want a trial. That, no doubt, is dictating team frugality rather than prudent team strategy.
English

@ColeRichmond20 @mikeinthevalley @DhaliwalSports The Canucks need to think about how to make money while the team is bad. Using Sedin's as a marketing tool and pay them pennies is brilliant. Going out to the community is a cheap but effective way to market the team.
English

@ColeRichmond20 @mikeinthevalley @DhaliwalSports Revenue and team profit are the strategy. The Canucks and the NHL are a business. The business strategy IS the strategy and dictates the team strategy. If the Aquilini's need to reduce costs to make the team more attractive to private equity, then that drives the ops budget.
English

@Yogi_Bear17 @fr_aquilini What fans may have a tough time with is that he may be profiting more than ever.
English

@seyerpa Another indirect impact is that lost revenue and potentially job losses would be impacted. Had the Canucks been in a healthy place, they may have saved SN650, even if temproarily. But with a rebuild, Sportsnet losses were going to accelerated.
English

People legit argued with me when I said rebuilding would leave cost cutting everywhere. They are not signing guys to big money or take on money for draft picks. The idiotic contracts given by Boomer, including OEL buyout, are insane. And no, ur not getting a practice facility too

English

@Duke991_ @jordancarp79 The Sedin's are smart. They understood the situation coming in and accepted it. If they didn't, then they didn't do due diligence.
English

@jordancarp79 Agreed, the Sedins have no reason to run this team other then for the love of it. Now ownership is putting them in a shitty position.
English

I hope this leak came from RJ and the Sedins to put some pressure on ownership.
They’ve done a great job at identifying talented individuals. It’s a shame they haven’t been afforded the capital to hire them.
Canucks News Summaries@VCanucksNews
English

@Duke991_ I would assume the Sedin's and RJ knew what the situation was when they joined. Especially after the Evan Gold situation, which likely was also over budget and salary.
English

@mikeinthevalley @ColeRichmond20 @DhaliwalSports Does profitability strongly correlate with winning? It depends on the owner and market. If Aquilini can dramatically cut costs, while only losing some revenue, he may well come out ahead.
English

@mikeinthevalley @ColeRichmond20 @DhaliwalSports Yes. The Canucks and NHL are a business. Protecting financials is more important than winning, I don't mean that in a bad way. It's a reality.
English

@BuresFlow @realScoobyJew21 This is not news Canucks want to hear. But it is now 100% evident that the rebuild was more like a "cost cutting" without the intention of building a cup winner.
English

@BuresFlow @realScoobyJew21 It's possible that the operational spend will stay low, even after the rebuild is "over". If he can operate a mid-tier (e.g. 13-18th overall) at a dramatically reduced ops budget...wow.
