8,000 phones, $580 million frozen, and the FBI is rotating agents to Thailand FBI's Bangkok office set up a joint task force with Royal Thai Police last August to go after scam compounds in the region. Royal Thai Police have since seized over 8,000 phones and 1,300 hard drives from suspected compounds. FBI Deputy Assistant Director Scott Schelble says they're no longer just targeting individual scammers but dismantling the networks financing and sustaining the compounds, tracing crypto across blockchains and freezing accounts. DOJ's Scam Center Strike Force has frozen or seized over $580 million in crypto so far. The FBI is also rotating special agents to Thailand on six-month deployments to work alongside Thai authorities. Meanwhile, Meta just took down 150,000+ accounts tied to scam center networks as part of a joint effort with Thai police, leading to 21 arrests.

Unverified Telegram post claims a group of Chinese nationals hired a private ambulance to travel from Koh Kong province to Sihanoukville, allegedly to dodge military police checkpoints along the route. Cambodia's Health Ministry reportedly confirmed the vehicle was a private ambulance and has launched an investigation, saying the ambulance came from the Thmor Da border area, which is thick with scam compounds. Ministry says they won't tolerate emergency vehicles being used as cover for cross-border crime. Could be nothing. Could also be a creative new wrinkle in how compound workers move between sites as the crackdown tightens. Worth watching.

His real name is Wang Dong, from Shandong, naturalized Cambodian in 2019. He once bought Birmingham City FC. He took over multiple companies from a relative, Wang Yaohui, a Beijing developer who lost a fortune gambling in Macau. Wang Yaohui used a loan from the Agricultural Bank of China, secured against a commercial development, to cover his debts. The scandal took down AgBank's top vice president. Wang Yaohui later moved to Cambodia and took citizenship too. APD's deposits grew from $138 million in 2021 to $1.1 billion by 2024. Total assets went from $176 million to $1.3 billion in four years.

You go to different doctor’s offices and fill out the same forms over and over again when you could scan a QR code and have your information transferred instantly. We live in the 21st century. Healthcare shouldn’t feel like Groundhog Day.
