Album Review for Maid of Honor by Drake Ok, this album is essentially what I referred to earlier in my tweets as the “Hookah lounge album”. “Southside, the fuck are you talking about?” Lemme explain. So if you remember the album “Honestly, Nevermind” that album was very dancehall, pop centric, and R&B-ish type music right? (With the exception of that one track with 21 Savage, which was actually kinda dope) Essentially, take what didn’t make that album and that’s what you have here. The album actually starts out with some catchy breakdance music that gets you up and moving and it goes into the best song on the project Road Trips. It continues the same sound of the synths, keys and cadence while balancing some more melodic lyrics as well. After that, it’s just a straight free fall down a fucking cliff. Stunna Sandy provides a somewhat decent feature and then Cheetah Print comes on. And it’s such a good song, until you get Sexyy Red basically rapping the fucking CHA-CHA SLIDE!!!!!! Once you power through that, the album essentially becomes Deandre Ayton, just useless. You’ve got your UK flavor, the dancehall that really doesn’t fit, and the pop records that feel hollow as fuck. And lyrically, I know for a fact most of these lyrics came from ChatGPT. Honestly, because this nigga can only sing in one key and can’t hit any other fucking notes, his melodic voice feels overly repetitive. Not gone hold you, there was potential here and it definitely got wasted because half the album just felt like shit we’ve already heard before. This particular album had too many things going on at once and it didn’t really have a clear direction from a production standpoint which is unfortunate because the first two tracks had promise. As it stands right now this might be the weakest of the bunch. Final Score: Wale’s self esteem/10
