Lindsey Graham came from humble beginnings and became one of the most powerful lawmakers in the most powerful nation on Earth. His story was a fundamentally American one. Early in my Senate tenure, I remember getting into a shouting match with Lindsey about a Ukraine funding bill at lunch and then learning the very next day that he was pushing rail legislation I really cared about behind the scenes. That was Lindsey Graham. He fought like hell for the things he believed in, and he was just as willing to go to bat for you when it counted. Lindsey had the best sense of humor in the Senate. He loved the game of politics. He was constantly asking which races were up and down, and how he could help. As he liked to say, “I don't care if you're an isolationist or a religious fanatic, so long as you have an R next to your name, I want you to win.” We certainly had our disagreements. But I couldn't help but like him. A one of a kind figure in our politics. I'll be praying for him and his family.

My heart is broken but I am comforted that the three amigos are together again. I am grateful beyond words for Lindsey’s years of friendship with my family, his undying service to his country and his defense of freedom around the world.  He loved his country deeply and devoted himself to it every day. He faced every challenge with determination, conviction, and an unwavering belief in America. He will be missed more than words can express.

I have alwasy loved Lindor. I was there when he hit the grand slam against the Phillies in 2024. Any time any of my friends complain and say he should be traded, I vehemently disagree. He should have been part of the future whenever this team puts together a winner. But I am now questioning it all. His body language. His effort. His voice in interviews. His entire aura. It’s flawed and he seems not to care. Not sure what is going on with Lindor but it may be time for the @Mets brass to sit him down and ask him if he wants to be a part of this team’s future. If he says yes, he should be told to begin to act like a leader and help this team encourage the new guys and be prepared every day as an example to them. If he says no, give him what he wants and trade him. Either way, something needs to change. The status quo will not work. The Mets have an amazing young group and they need more guys encouraging them and teaching them the way Soto is instead of someone sulking because he isnt the captain. It’s time for a conversation.

It was a shock this morning to find out that my friend Lindsey Graham has died. He was a man who loved his work, his country, and his family. He didn’t have an easy life growing up and to me that explained a lot about him as well as his devotion to his remaining family members including his sister. It also explained his almost kid-like exuberance about his job and the responsibilities he was given (even in his sixties he would get off a plane in a foreign land with a twinkle in his eye and look at me as if to say, can you believe we are actually here and doing this?). Lindsey was loyal to friends and causes. He was willing to work on gnarly issues and take on (at times) political risks for the right reasons. It is fitting that he died shortly after visiting Ukraine, one of those causes he would stand up for through thick and thin. Much will be said in the coming days about his relationships with others—President Trump and John McCain for instance—but what can’t be forgotten is the reason why so many people he worked with—from senators to staff—will mourn his loss: Lindsey had a zest for life and the Senate that made you want to get to work on a bill with him or at least debate him. He brought joy to his job. Lindsey Graham was the one who was willing to work with me (when so few would) on helping the Afghan refugees. I remember standing outside of a little phone booth in the Republican cloakroom last year as he spoke with the Vice President, holding up a sign that said “Save the Afghans” and he put the phone on hold and said “OK OK I will go on your bill even if it gets me in trouble.” Or his early willingness to lead on big tech bills, including repealing the provision that protects them from consumer suits. But mostly my fond memories of spending time with Lindsey (and we travelled the world with John McCain) was not about the ups and downs of his policy positions. It was about his love for the world, his loyalty to hard causes and his friends, and the pure joy he brought to life. I will miss him.

I shut off the TV as soon as Williams came in. I don't need the agita. He did what I knew he'd do. He ruined a beautifully pitched game by Thornton. He got help from the 34 million dollar man. What a shame in a season of shame.

This should be about Zach Thornton, but it's not. It's about Lindor's error, Devin Williams' inconsistency and the org's puzzling decision to not make Luke Weaver the closer. The result? Young talent is again overshadowed by this blight of a season: newsday.com/sports/columni…
