@F1Marv Mich freut es immer, wenn diese Geschichte irgendwo als Legende eingeordnet wird, wie zum Beispiel auch im Nationalen Automuseum. Finde es in Ordnung, zu erzählen "Der Legende nach [...]", aber es so als Fakt darzustellen, ist einfach falsch, da es keine Beweise gibt.

Mercedes will uns bis heute das alte Märchen vom abgekratzten Lack beim Eifelrennen 1934 erzählen. Eine nette Geschichte, aber leider nie passiert. Ausgedacht hat sie sich Alfred Neubauer viele Jahrzehnte später. Die Autos waren bereits silber als sie zum Nürburgring kamen.

@Kenny_Wallace Been there twice and loved it! Sometimes the IROC car is on display at the floor and you can see how they've taken off the bodwork on one side of the car so you can see the chassis and rollcage!

the thing is, they're absolutely right, One of the beauties of Formula 1 has always been seeing some of the greatest talents in the sport unleashed over a single lap where they wring the neck of the car and drive the thing right at the edge of adhesion, This includes braking as late as possible, pushing the cars right to the edge of the grip that the tires and the machine can take and leave nothing on the table, this was what made some of the stunning laps of the last decade or so special, when you watch the onboards now and you see George Russell, THE MAN WHO SECURED POLE POSITION, lift a kilometer before the braking point in the Turn 9-10 section, or a Charles Leclerc lift a considerable distance before the braking zone into Turn 1, you see these drivers being forced to drive well within themselves. F1 is not a drag race, we have IndyCAR and NASCAR for that, it's about the skills and precision in the intricate parts of the track....this regulations have taken that away.... Driver will HATE this and they have every right to...so will the hardcore fanbase. things need to change and soon because this was depressing to watch... and we've not even gone racing yet 🤦

NEW F1 ONBOARDS!🏁 Last year F1 began the switch to new Sony cameras, similar to those used in MotoGP with in-camera stabilisation - which has now been rolled out to all teams! We're now getting a 13% screen increase for a wider field of view, and less of the fish eye effect!

I cannot watch skiing without thinking about what happened to Gernot Reinstadler. His death has to be the most brutal in sports history. He was literally ripped in half after one of his skis got caught in the safety net. He was able to stay alive long enough to get to the hospital, but no amount of surgeries or blood transfusions could save him. He was only 20. Winter athletes are truly a different breed. The risk they take everytime they compete is no joke. Especially skiers.

@ElCaminoBilly @emkenobi I tend to think the "trapped in the car" deaths are even more horrible because they are slow, painful deaths. Phillips may have been torn to shreds by the catchfence and Smiley crushed by a wall at 200mph but at least they were dead instantly and most likely didn't feel a thing.

@ElCaminoBilly @emkenobi Phillips was also one of the first that came to my mind. Unbelievably visceral. Other ones I thought of were Gordon Smiley and Riccardo Paletti or Roger Williamson. I think you can divide horrible motorsport deaths into the "Gory/big forces" and "trapped in the car" categories
