I was pleased to address today's thanksgiving service on the 80th anniversary of the formation of the United Nations. This covenant of nations, born from an audacious dream, must persevere in its commitment to peace, which is always the work of God. rcdow.org.uk/cardinal/homil…

I wish you all a most prayerful and blessed Christmas. I ask you to be angels and stars for others, drawing them, by your actions and encouragement, to Jesus, our Lord and Master, the fountain of peace and joy. This way we share the true happiness of Christmas.

I look forward very much to his Installation as our new Archbishop on Saturday, 14 February 2026. It is, of course, St Valentine’s Day, as well as the Feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius, co-Patrons of Europe. rcdow.org.uk/news/bishop-ri…

I am delighted at the news that Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Richard Moth as the next Archbishop of Westminster. Archbishop-elect Richard will bring to our Diocese many gifts and considerable episcopal experience from his years of ministry.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed, all who were injured, and with all who mourn. Such senseless violence is a tragic reminder of the pain that hatred and terror inflict on the innocent, a hurt felt across faiths and nations.

For the Diocese of Plymouth, the appointment of Bishop Nicholas Hudson is most welcome news. Bishop Hudson will serve the Diocese of Plymouth with great generosity and sensitivity, bringing to that leadership his wide experience of the Church both at home and abroad.

175 years ago, Newman preached the arrival of a 'Second Spring' for the Church this country. Echoing this, @CardinalNichols encourages us to take hope in the uptake in religious observance which has been seen in the Catholic Church. Watch the full video: youtu.be/bEEMbqlhOL4?si…

Together we will be responsive to the prayer of Jesus that we ‘may all be one’ (John 17:21) and seek to develop the bonds of friendship and shared mission between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church.

It is a duty of us all to work together to ensure a more cohesive and respectful society, one in which such violence and inhumanity have no place.

In the Catholic tradition, Jewish people are held to be 'elder brothers' in faith of our Christian family. My prayers, and those of the Catholic community, are heartfelt and profound: for those who have died, the bereaved, the injured, and those who will feel less safe tonight.

The killing of two Jewish worshippers, the injuries inflicted on others, and the attempt to drive a car into a crowd in Manchester today are expressions of utter hatred that must not be tolerated in this land. rcdow.org.uk/cardinal/news/…

May God continue to bless our Diocese. May the Archangels, our patron saints, our Blessed Lady, St Joseph, St Peter, St Edward the Confessor together with all the saints closely linked to us, including St John Southworth, St John Henry Newman and St Carlo Acutis, pray for us.

Our Diocese in 1850 was not the Diocese of today. Catholic life was slowly emerging from centuries of opposition and suppression. Only gradually did we regain a recognised place in public and political life. Throughout it all, our mission has survived and been fruitful.

The Church in England and Wales gives thanks to God for his life and vocation. We pledge our filial devotion and unity, entrusting his ministry to the maternal care of Our Lady of Walsingham, confident that Christ will continue to guide him as he leads His Church.
