The #STLCards aren’t mathematically eliminated, but they might as well be.

If 3 teams ahead of #Cardinals for NL's 3rd wild card go .500 in their final 18 games, the Cardinals (with 19 to play) must go 17-2 to claim the berth, at 89-73 just ahead of Mets (88-74 if they go 9-9). If Cardinals go 12-7, they need NYM 5-13, ATL 7-12, CHC 10-8 to tie. Oof.

Which of the #STLCards decisions over the past two seasons left you the most puzzled?

@JohnnyVenerable They drafted 3 DB’s and 1 Edge in 2024. You can make the case that in place of DB Jones at 90 they could’ve moved up for an Edge like Jonah Ellis who went 76 to Denver.

Monti Ossenfort has done a really nice job building the Cardinals roster back up to respectability.
That being said (and I get injuries play a part), Arizona's edge unit is arguably the worst in football.

@cardsfanjoanna I think Dallas might be traded. They have Weaver to return kicks. Plus, they really like Demercado as a pass protector.

I just cannot convince myself that the Cardinals they let Michael Carter become available.
It’s either Demercado or accept that the DJ Dallas contact was perhaps a bit overzealous.

@joshjacoMLB How much longer is Gallegos a Cardinal? He was our only option left, right? We chose to extend Helsley for the first time and lose him for the rest of the series rather than risk Gio blowing it.

Cardinals are now 46-41. They keep finding ways to win. And they are about to get Nootbaar and Edman back.
Interested to see how they upgrade at the deadline!

He’s hitting the ball relatively hard again, but the strikeout rate is difficult for him to overcome & he’s been the worst hitter in MLB this year against pitches over the heart of the plate (per Statcast).

I like the current outfield configuration of Donovan, Siani, and Burleson. I don't think Edman or Noot deserve to supplant any of them at this point. Maybe Edman can shift to 2nd if Gorman continues to struggle. Noot can't stay healthy and looks as injury prone as TON. #stlcards

@BKSportsTalk I believe many Cardinal fans have just grown tired of Mozeliak’s communication skills. Whether it’s his personality or his decisions or his demeanor, I think many fans are just ready to see and hear new leadership in that role.

Paul Goldschmidt sees a first-pitch elevated fastball and doesn't miss, crushing it to dead center for his 11th homer of the year.
Again, while the overall production numbers are obviously down, Goldschmidt's swings over the last two-ish weeks have been much, much better.

What makes a winning player?
It’s something that goes beyond the box score, and we all know it when we see it.
In the case of Brendan Donovan, the analytics and the eye text back up that he’s the Cardinals’ MVP and straw that stirs their drink.

Brendan Donovan in a run-producing spot in the order has been a revelation. I liked him batting at the top for his OBP but the Cardinals are getting more out of him here while simultaneously having a high quality leadoff man in Winn. Really good stuff.
