I was thinking about this match today at work, so I rewatched it on the ride home. Honestly, it’s still fantastic Seth was so good during this build, he was a man who was determined to beat the guy he was 0-3 against and he was determined to do it by himself. The looming threat of Paul Heyman saying things might become difficult for Seth’s standing as leader of the Vision could’ve been sold as the big selling point of the match. But to me, it was secondary to Seth’s burning desire to win for himself. It was just great main event wrestling that actually called for Seth’s main event style in 2025 (something that I wasn’t in love with despite being a huge Seth fan) as he was the man that wouldn’t stay down. WWE has a habit of hyper fixating on certain things to the point that it becomes a gag online (Punk’s bracelet and the infamous “Shield Chair”), but the watch given to Seth from Cody being the death blow that allowed Seth to finally beat Cody was perfect. Seth’s performance in the match was one of my favorites that year, he was a man possessed by a desire to come out at top by any means necessary. Even if it was at the expense of himself (or his shoulder). The pure joy and pride on his face after he got the three count and the belt was so satisfying. The thing that prevents me from going a full 5 is the fact that I believe this type of match and performance wasn’t meant for a Champion vs Champion showcase match. I understand the mentality that you should always go all out on a PLE, but this was something that belonged on a bigger stage with higher stakes. A fitting conclusion for one of my favorite rivalries in the Triple H Era.
