A thread about how scaling social enterprise might save the world . The widening health & wealth inequalities in our society, loneliness and the obesity epidemic requires us all to be activists. We need to take drastic, rebellious and bold action. we can't wait for government,

A superb policy from @TheGreenParty My take is that you can pay the CEO and others what you like, as long as the cleaner, the caretaker, and the kitchen staff are paid at least 10% of that. (Personally, I'd go for a 5:1 ratio, but I'm a radical.)
The Green Party@TheGreenParty

A @HighPayCentre poll shows 55% of the British public support linking CEO pay to workers’ earnings, with only 15% opposed. The Green Party calls on the government to act and adopt a 10:1 pay ratio — fair pay for a fairer society.

Must watch explanation on clean energy by @g__j on #BBCQT - also watch Tim Stanley squirm repeatedly when Jackson gives answers Greg Jackson, "We've crossed the rubicon.. Clean energy is now cheaper than fossil fuels" "Power from wind and solar is cheaper than power from fossil fuels" "Consumers don't see the benefits because our markets are run in the old traditional way" "We need market reform so when we build wind farms, people get cheaper energy" "It doesn't help that we are paying wind farms to turn off when it's windy, instead of giving people cheap power at those times" "59% of all of the renewable energy has been built in China" Fiona Bruce, "They're also building huge coal plants" Greg Jackson, "The majority will never be used, they'll be mothballed" "Why are they building green energy? It's not because they're nice people. Now they recognise clean energy is cheaper, and energy is the engine of growth for their industry, they're investing in it" "Six or seven years ago if you went to Chinese cities people wore face mask because of air pollution.. That's gone" Tim Stanley, "If you have a period where the wind dies and the sun doesn't shine, what happens, you have to rely on back up.. Rely on gas.. Import the power from overseas" Greg Jackson, "Allow me to help you with this answer.. As somebody who buys more power than anybody in the UK.. I can give you an authoritative answer on what to do" "An electric car holds enough power in its battery for a typical house in the best part of the week" "As more and more electric cars hit our roads, we have distributed storage of electricity, days on end, without wind" "It's not the whole solution but it's a big part of it.. And it helps us reduce our reliance on things like those fossil fuel backups" "It's always windy somewhere, it's always sunny somewhere.. As we connect our country to others.. When they're windy we get their power, when we're windy we sell ours to them" "By the way, we are one of the windiest places in the world.. This is a huge export opportunity for the UK"

@deirdreheenan I wish we’d stop conflating class with wealth. In fact, I wish we would abandon the word class, I think in the UK if today it is meaningless and serves only to divide.

Laura Kuenssberg blatantly framing the budget as an attack on class. Never mind poverty- “rightly or wrongly you’ve put taxes up on private jets and private schools” On the other hand Kemi Badenoch is introduced as the “bold and radical” new leader of opposition. #BBCLauraK

@DaleVince Fifteen years ago (I’m sure technology has moved on and improved) we used a single unit to heat our 2500 sq ft restaurant and provide a good deal of our hot water. The system was fantastic.

The government’s heat pump programme risks tens of millions of people forking out thousands for technology that doesn’t deliver. The case for all homes to have heat pumps does not stack up. Let’s have a proper debate on this informed by the facts. theguardian.com/environment/20…

@rcbregman @MaxCRoser Hi Max, Hi Rutger – I agree the $3.10/day poverty line is far too low. Here’s why I used it in 2016… a thread...

"In most Istanbul neighbourhoods, the working class sets the culinary bar, and they set it high. They want it fast, fresh, cheap and as close as possible to their mothers’ recipes. Public Canteens, as highlighted by @nourishscotland, are a 'classic public health intervention'

🤷‍♀️ Would the British Restaurants that fed up to 600K people a day during WW2 attract those numbers today? This article describes a way of eating that resonates with the shift I’d love to see in our food culture. This line in particular; amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/amp.thegua…

For days, I've wondered why the PM was so slow to call in the army to deal with these riots. Today, I've come to understand why; he knows what the far right is attempting to do. 🧵

Utterly shameful and a national disgrace. Hey @UKLabour, when are you going to revoke the draconian anti-protest laws drafted by oil and gas companies and then implemented by the last government? These were peaceful protests. Enough. theguardian.com/environment/ar…
