New polling: 60% say Scotland should remain part of the United Kingdom. People want cooperation across the UK, not more division. Read more from the latest polling published today: scotlandinunion.co.uk/post/new-poll-…

Scientists found the exercise that turns your body into a fat-burning machine in 6 weeks. It's not HIIT. It's not lifting. It's barely even "hard." 99% of people in the gym are doing the opposite. Here's what they found: 🧵

Zelensky is a genius. He started his 1v1 meeting with Trump by thanking Melania Trump for sending Putin a letter asking for Ukraine's children to be returned. Zelensky then gave trump a letter for his wife from the First Lady of Ukraine. Trump was pretty mild after that.

@drchriscarson UK trained doctors owe the public a great deal. The cost of their university education is many times higher than the fees they paid. I support higher salaries for doctors but their achievement is not all on them.

@SonyaDouglas It was popular in Glasgow primary schools in the late 60s, early 70s. My cousin had to work very hard to overcome the handicap of phonetic spelling. Education is still bedevilled by teaching strategies which are introduced despite the total lack of evidence to support them.

I’d never heard of this failed experiment in teachers lying to children. No follow up, no apology, just leaving kids to pick up the pieces in their own lives while the educationalists moved on. We’re in danger of going that again with gender ideology. apple.news/AJr0cw_7ISe24Y…

@afneil Absolutely agree. Not only a comprehensive historical education but also chronological, unlike the scatter gun approach in the current Scottish curriculum. Pupils can’t tell you if the Vikings invaded before or after the battle of Culloden.

Perhaps they didn’t teach Scottish history in your private Bearsden school but in my state primary and grammar schools in Paisley in the 1950s and 1960s there was extensive teaching of Scottish history. I learned about the Picts and the Scots, Viking invasions, Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, how our King became the British King, the guarantees for Scottish religion, law and education in the Act of Union, the Scottish role in the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution (and slavery!) and Glasgow as 2nd City of the Empire. And much more.

@MrMcEnaney I don’t care one jot about school blazers but I do care about a Scottish govt which appears to care more about this than the poorer performance of disadvantaged children or the serious disciplinary situation in classrooms. Why are they concerning themselves with such trivia?

And *of course* the Tories are going for a bit of faux-outrage over advice on school uniforms. It's not as if there are loads of proper issues in education to be dealt with or anything.

So we ban Lance Armstrong for taking drugs which will give him a small but important advantage over his male rivals because it’s cheating but we let 51 year old male Valentina Petrillo have a huge advantage with no issue at all against female athletes! Why is this being allowed?

⬇️My mother once told me she could spot a teacher at 100 yards. I scoffed. She checked out the people in the street and pointed to a guy and said ‘Him’. Reader, I knew him and he was a teacher. I did not tell her she was right. Omniscient mothers need no encouragement.

Been sat at a popular Derbyshire spot and we have been playing, Spot The Teacher. Easy game as I think we are a typical breed this time of year. Bonus point for year group or subject specialism. Anyone else want to join in? @DeputyGrocott @Misterbodd

@robbystarbuck Completing homework results in better exam grades, particularly in content heavy subjects like maths, science, languages. You take your choice to do it or not, but be aware of the reason why teachers issue it. It would make their lives easier not to bother.

My hot parenting take: Homework is stupid. Sending your kid to school for 7-9 hours a day and then sending them home with 1-2 hours of homework is like your job sending you home to work from home everyday after a full shift. 7-9 hrs/day of school is already too much imo.

Tonight I’m having my dinner in a restaurant that shares its name with the greatest Eurovision song of all time. Ten points if you get the name right, nine if you give me a stupid guess that makes me laugh. None for Gretchen Weiners.

I could watch Alex Yee winning the triathlon gold medal until the cows come home. Pure determination and unbelievable stamina. What the Olympics are all about. Not men punching women in a boxing ring - horrifying. Shame on Morocco and the IOC.

@MathewHulbert @LibDems No. It looks like hubris and that is very off putting to the electorate. Jo Swanson claiming she could be the next PM was a definite vote loser in 2019.

The voting figures in this GE are entirely misleading. In England and Wales people voted tactically so get the Tories out. In Scotland we voted tactically to get the SNP out. The voting percentages are meaningless but the voters got the result they wanted. Democracy in action.
