These cows become superheroes from here on into winter… what they lose on being hairy, smaller and slower they gain on being cheap to keep, healthy, low maintenance and productive. I love them.

@GavinDurrant1 we've had the odd angel wing in the geese. Occurs when they get too much protein. The wing grows too quickly, and they can't hold it up. This looks almost the opposite stunted due to lack of growth...🤔

Can anyone tell me if this is 'angel wing' deformity in this young Mute swan. It is always on its own on petos marsh at Carlton and looks as though the wings have hardly developed at all.

@tristiandavie @herdyshepherd1 certainly the early series of this farming life were wonderful. Always thought they should have continued with some of those families rather than changing every year.

@herdyshepherd1 It’s a shame there isn’t more “this farming life” to showcase the rest of the uk’s farming. So many interesting farming operations and individuals who could showcase UK ag ,off the back of huge popularity from Clarksons farm. Should put AHDB marketing budget towards it.

Lost count of the number of BBC people I met who told me no one was interested in farming on its own terms It’s total rubbish Farming and food are massive mainstream issues of national interest

@herdyshepherd1 you are so right...those quiet ones in the herd, calve on their own, first to get back in calf, feed their calf really well, hold condition on nothing when the weather is tough, never ill or lame...yes a whole herd of them would be great.

There is a thing in functional cattle breeding of the best cow being the one you never notice/help/prop up This cow, Holly, is that cow for us She wouldn’t win a show but I’d love to have a thousand like her for the business

@hilltopfarmgirl we are counting the days to marsh grazing again...to be fair the weather has been kind in the east this winter

Cows happy & wintering well. 45 days until the end of March, when we can officially declare the end of winter. But sometimes it snows in April

@ruslandvalley Good news! we got both our stewardship payment and sfi offer a couple of weeks ago too...phew!

Update Today the 2024 countryside stewardship was paid 🥳 I have also received an SFI scheme offer. It is for around half of what I applied for. The rest cannot be added because of a system error, but should be able to in future when the system is working properly. Good news.
