I grew up three miles from Aintree. It's a nice suburb between the city and the flat fields of south-west Lancs. The Old Roan was the main pub. It was once home to this art deco building – first, as Vernon's pools HQ, second, Paradox nightclub. Sadly, now demolished.

If you are a parent or carer of a child with autism or learning disabilities, PLEASE take a moment to read this. Before your child turns 18, look into the Court of Protection and what it means for your family. Many of us are NEVER told this is something we need to prepare for. 🧵

It’s important that we reflect and respond to these results - we haven’t done enough to offer people hope for the future. In the coming days I’ll be setting out the path ahead.

@Banksycat Politicians and the apparatuses of government don't exist to help you. They work for the ruling establishment, the 0.1%. Not FOR you, but AGAINST you. You and the rest of us fellow members of the 99.9% are nothing but nuisance pests to be kept in line, subjugated, exploited.

Labour was elected to change this country. That is what the public want, and what they deserve. Tough days like today don’t weaken our determination to deliver that change. They strengthen it.

THE WRITE-OFF CAR TRAP Your insurer writes off your car. You accept the payout. Six months later someone drives past you in it. That is not a coincidence. A question from Siobhain C. @vonniecroz in the comments of my post stopped me and made me think this deserves its own post. Most people have no idea how this works. Here is the full picture. When an insurer declares your car a write-off, they pay you market value and take legal ownership. They then sell it to a salvage buyer, usually at auction. That buyer repairs it using an independent garage and second-hand parts at a fraction of what your insurer quoted. The car goes back on the road. Everyone profits. Except you. Now here is the part that should make you angry. Insurers use approved repair networks where labour rates are fixed and inflated. A repair an independent garage would do for £800 costs £2,500 through an approved repairer. The insurer takes that inflated figure, compares it to your car's market value, declares it uneconomical to repair, and writes it off. They manufactured the justification. Those approved repair standards in the UK are set by Thatcham Research. Thatcham is directly funded by motor insurers. The industry sets the standards that justify the decisions that generate the profit. It is a closed loop. My wife's car was hit on our driveway. The insurer declared it a write-off and offered a payout. She took the payment, retained the salvage, and had it repaired independently. The repair cost a fraction of what the insurer's approved network would have charged. The car is still on the road. That is exactly what the insurer does not want you to know you can do. You have the legal right to retain your salvage. You can buy the written-off vehicle back and repair it yourself or through a garage of your choice. That right exists. It is buried in small print and almost never explained clearly at the point of claim. Most people assume written off means destroyed. That assumption saves the insurer money every single time it goes unchallenged. If your car is ever written off, do not hand it over without asking what happens to it next. The insurer cannot force you to surrender the salvage. You are entitled to retain it, repair it independently, and keep driving it. They will not volunteer that information. You have to ask for it directly and put it in writing. @TransparencyTF @MLorrM

It's stupid to keep talking about governments/parties mishandling of this and that, and a failed society, 'Broken Britain', etc. All governments have played—and are currently playing—a blinder. Talk of governments doing a good job/bad job is pointless.

Charlie makes a good point. Historically a barrel of oil has been far more expansive than now, but currently pump prices are at record prices. Why ? Why when petrol costs more to refine than diesel, why is diesel so much more expensive in the UK ?

The bookies have Restore Britain down as a 10% implied probability of winning the most seats at the next general election. Three weeks ago, we weren't even registered as a political party. A bloody good start, I'd say.

@RogueUnfiltered It’s called gaslighting. Done by the present government, the past government and so on. No doubt the government which replaces this one will also do the same. They’re all in the same club serving the same masters.

The lack of driving tests in England has cost my son a job opportunity. He was put forward for a graudate role, but needed a licence. Earliest test that could be booked was in August, which was booked in February. He was not put forward for the role. Hugely frustrating.
