In 2015-16 around the time when I was working with either NIB or Echo House, (I think) Citi FM conducted a campaign bringing awareness to the water implications of Galamsey. I remember this so clearly, there were people on the street around Okponglo handing out fliers. This was when JM was in power, and Nana Ama was still at Citi FM. Feel free to correct me if I’m mis-remembering A year later, power exchanged hands, and there wasn’t another national conversation again until KalyJay and Oliver Barker and co kickstarted it. By the time the conversation was renewed, Nana Addo had been in power for 6 years. In those 6 years, more mining licenses had been given than had ever been given in our history combined. Mining in forest reserves were permitted and the water had started changing color. That’s when the agitations began. There was an agglomeration of factors, which resulted in the agitations, including the time they had had to deal with the problem, how much worse the problem had gotten during his tenure and the fact that we were beginning to see physical manifestations of the problem. If anything we were very fair to the former President in giving him 6 years before we started complaining. If the problem is harder to solve now, he is one of the reasons that is the case. We should not be handing out get-out-of-jail free cards.

“….. and there wasn’t another national conversation again until KalyJay and Oliver Barker and co kickstarted it.” You boldly put out these lies and still have the balls to call someone dishonest. You’re not only dishonest but a HYPOCRITE!!! What informed Nana Addo’s decision to barn Galamsey? Was Galamsey not a National topic on airwaves when he said he will put his Presidency on the line? The missing excavators? Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report? Operation VANGUARD, GALAMSTOP & co were all not National conversations right? This is hypocrisy of the highest order!!! ƆTORƆFO!!!
