A beautiful article indeed. Truly elegant. If adjectives were GDP, metaphors were institutions, and poetry could repay IMF loans, Pakistan would be a superpower already. Hospitality is real. Culture is real. Talent is real. But so are coups, debt cycles, terror blowback, censorship, and governance failures. Pride is healthy. Propaganda in premium English is still propaganda. Pakistan deserves honesty, not fan fiction. 🇵🇰 #Pakistan #Geopolitics #SouthAsia #FactsMatter

This is called Geopolitical Cartography. I devoted a full section of my book on this issue. Pakistan was earlier clubbed under "AfPak" because of its front line role in the US War on Terror that ruined Pakistan's economic indicators, and now it has been lumped with MENA which is a highly volatile region. Here is a GDP growth rate comparison of the regions: South Asia: 5-7% Middle East: 1-4% (high volatility) By involving itself too deep into the geopolitical mess of the Middle East, including defense agreements, loan payments, and personalized services, the ruling regime has sacrificed long term stability, growth and sovereignty for a short-term international relevance.

🚨 The World Bank has reclassified Pakistan from South Asia to its Middle East and North Africa region, effective from 1 July 2025.

All the verdant-colored landscapes and escapes across the strategic capital, but still, my eyes were looking for a countryside girl. A girl tending her capital like the fields of her village, singing and working all the while making it more beautiful.

Footpaths are being restored all over the Capital. As our teams serve notices, residents are requested to cooperate and voluntarily remove any encroachments/barriers on pedestrian pathways. Footpaths belong to the people, pl do not privatize them

The refusal to submit, the withholding of بیعت - the oath of allegiance - to the tyrant is more than a political gesture; it is an ethical imperative. But defiance alone is not a virtue; tyrants, too, can be defiant to the end. What gives defiance its moral force is the ideal it serves. However overbearing Goliath’s power may be, and even if annihilation seems certain, one must still hold fast to the resolve not to submit, not to give بیعت. The ideal lives; the rest will end anyway.

This Pakistani left was created by the CIA during the 2001- Afghan war to stifle dissent against atrocities and manufacture consent for the war. For this, the US spend more than $1bn in the country through NED, USAID. The person you are quoting, his mom is a recipient of USAID.

Progressive International leftist tries to frame nuclear-armed Pakistan (whose govt just called Trump the "savior of S Asia") bombing destitute Afghanistan as anti-imperialism vs the US(-Israel-India). S Asian leftism is often just establishment nationalism w extra tortured steps

So the rumours were true that Roosevelt hotel would’ve given to Trump family or people close to him! Instead of getting funds Pakistan seems to be paying through its nose for Trump’s verbal support
Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan@Financegovpk

The Governments of Pakistan and the United States have formally launched a strategic economic initiative, including collaboration with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) regarding the operation, maintenance, renovation, and redevelopment of the Roosevelt Hotel in New York. This engagement was negotiated and stewarded by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. To advance this partnership, both governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing their cooperation. The MoU was executed by GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst on behalf of the United States and Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on behalf of Pakistan, and witnessed by Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. It establishes a structured, time-bound framework for joint evaluation of the technical, commercial, and economic parameters of cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to transparent, disciplined, and mutually beneficial progress. Given the Roosevelt Hotel’s prime Manhattan location and the complexity of New York zoning and municipal processes, institutional coordination aims to reduce execution risk, enhance regulatory clarity, and maximize transaction value. Such facilitative frameworks are consistent with international practice in cross-border real estate and infrastructure projects. The objective remains to secure maximum value for this property in alignment with the government’s privatization strategy while strengthening Pakistan-United States economic ties.

Citizens are not being heard, are not being seen, are not being replied to. In this holy month of ramzan, the citizens are being deprived of the blessings of the cute administrative tinkering. If this is the promise of ramzan, then

Pakistan's startup ecosystem has been a disappointing story. When I started Plan9 incubator in 2012, there was suddenly so much excitement around startups. It seemed, everyone wanted to setup a startup incubator -- and we had several hundred founders working on decent ideas. Fast forward today, it seems that's where it all stopped. As startups became fashionable, everyone simply replicated Plan9 and thought they were done. Small investment funds came and went; wealthy family offices tried to re-brand themselves as VCs mostly as a vanity play; conferences, meet-ups, TV shows ... so much activity, but no substance. At this point, despite a clear opportunity for unicorns in FinTech, EdTech, AgriTech, E-commerce, Food delivery, Grocery delivery, B2B e-commerce, Logistics, OTT etc -- there is not a single home-brewed startup even remotely close to a $100 M valuation. PropTech is the only exception at this point ... Even some of the mid-tier software houses ($10M -15M ARR), mostly live off of paltry upwork projects -- with very little intellectual property, products, or innovation. I want to genuinely learn why? Why can't we even replicate a fraction of the success similar countries in our neighbourhood have seen?
