In 2013, George Clooney gifted $1 million in Tumi suitcases to each of his 14 closest friends during a dinner party, personally covering the taxes as well. According to longtime friend Rande Gerber, Clooney told them: “I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is, I’ve got your money. The bad news is, I don’t have it anymore.” Each friend also received tax coverage so no one would owe a cent. Clooney’s decision was inspired by gratitude rather than extravagance. These were the friends who had loaned him money, given him a couch to sleep on, and stood by him before fame. The act became legendary in Hollywood, a reminder that wealth means little without generosity. Clooney’s friend Rande Gerber later said most recipient was a working professional, some barely making ends meet, and that Clooney’s gift “changed their lives overnight.” © History Pictures #archaeohistories
