Important to note that Sen. Blackburn's AI bill, despite its name, is not the right legislation to advance this agenda. But this agenda is an important one that is worthy of bipartisan support.

7. Preempt state laws...allow states to do state things, e.g. own use of AI, policing, zoning, etc., but not imposing regs that hinder national competitiveness.

Excellent! Exactly the playbook for AI that Congress should have been working from for the past few years. Let's look at the key points. ⤵️

Today, the @WhiteHouse released a commonsense National AI Policy Framework that ensures every American benefits from AI. As @POTUS has said — we need one federal AI policy, not a 50 state patchwork. This gets us there. Eager to work with Congress on this important legislation.

The discussion draft of Sen. @MarshaBlackburn's TRUMP AMERICA AI Act aggregates a slew of heavy-handed, innovation-constraining ideas for regulating AI systems into a flawed federal framework.

.@GOVUK released its Copyright and AI report with no proposal or timeline. While avoiding a flawed policy is better than rushing, continued inaction is unsustainable. Our statement from @MRJKilcoyne: vist.ly/4vctu

A bit ironic that this is the "28th option" rather than fixing the other 27. In theory, EU member states should be competing with one another on policy to attract companies. The fact that this isn't happening points to broader failures that this proposal won't fix.

Does not seem like existing companies can switch to this setup. Would be interesting if they could. Commission says more is coming on cross-border telework in the Fair Labour Mobility Package. That would be a plus.

EU Inc., a proposal to simplify starting and operating a business in Europe. Pros: Fast & cheap registration, digital processes for financing and liquidation Cons: Doesn't fix employment, tax, courts, or other regulations. No mention of AI either. Missed opportunity.

ITIF has 2 great positions open: 1) AI policy and 2) industrial strategy. No better place for a pragmatic and independent-thinking analyst to make a policy difference. Go to our web site and click on jobs

Three years ago, I drafted "A global declaration on free and open AI" which highlighted the need to safeguard democratic principles and individual freedoms in the emerging AI era. In a rush to regulate AI, people's liberties can easily be trampled. itif.org/publications/2…

Terrible! A proposed Minnesota constitutional amendment: "The right to freely speak, write, and publish sentiments on all subjects provided in this section does not apply to artificial intelligence."

Too many policymakers ignore a basic political reality: “we’ll help you prosper” is a more compelling message than “we’ll make hardship easier,” even if both aim to improve living standards. huffpost.com/entry/cory-boo…
