@gmenanno I used the commercial software Comsol. I'm only interested in first arrivals at a point at the bottom, so the 3d model is surrounded by an absorbing layer and a low-reflecting boundary.

@CatGreenfield Nice! Could you please share the software or programming language you used? I’m working on a similar problem (using EM waves), using freeFEM, but we haven’t sorted out the boundary conditions yet as you nicely did.

Too pretty not to share 🤓 Finite element simulations for acoustic waves in vesicular rock are go! Next steps, reduce wavelength and increase porosity… and hope my RAM holds. What happens to wave velocities with changes in vesicle aspect ratio/orientation & differential stress?
