On This Day — May 17, 1939: Britain Appeased the Arabs & Condemned Europe’s Jews to the Holocaust As Jews across Europe were being beaten, robbed & deported after Kristallnacht, Britain joined the side of their persecutors by issuing the infamous White Paper of 1939 — one of the most disgraceful acts of appeasement and betrayal in modern history. The Struma — carrying 769 Jews, including 70 children — was refused entry and later sunk. One of many such tragedies. Britain’s policy trapped Jews in Europe with nowhere to run as the Holocaust began. By closing the gates while the Nazis prepared the gas chambers, Britain became complicit in the scale of the systematic, industrialized genocide. At least hundreds of thousands of Jews who could have reached safety in the Land of Israel were instead exterminated. The British didn’t just fail the Jews. They actively helped ensure that when the Nazis came for them, there was no place left in the world to which they could escape. That is why a strong, sovereign Israel is not optional — it is an existential necessity. Never again will Jews depend on the mercy of empires that appease our enemies and abandon us to slaughter. The IDF said earlier today that it killed Bahaa Baroud, a Hamas commander in the group's operations headquarters. After I took a closer look at Baroud's past activities, it appears he was the deputy director of Qawafil al-Khair, a charity association in Gaza. Thus, it seems that a Hamas commander was in a senior position at a charity in Gaza. It would not be the first time a Hamas member was involved with a charity. A little over a year ago, the IDF killed Muhammad al-Bardawil (second photo), a Hamas member who founded al-Khair Challenge, another charity that continues to be active. The US Treasury has sanctioned numerous sham charities in the Gaza Strip that funded Hamas activities.

Fact Check: Israel does not limit humanitarian aid to Gaza. @NewYorker's latest piece omitted critical context we provided: ​ -600 aid trucks enter Gaza daily through 30+ registered organizations operating transparently. -The NGOs refusing to cooperate historically accounted for less than 1% of aid. Humanitarian delivery is not dependent on them and continues to flow uninterrupted. -Vetting employee lists is a necessary, transparent measure to prevent Hamas from infiltrating aid networks and exploiting local staff. ​There are no restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza. Do not cooperate with false narratives pushed by special interest groups.

So in summary, this is a European with no strong roots in the land of Israel, whose family made the decision to immigrate back to the continent of their grandparents instead of remaining under Arab control.
