@HumanEd_Au Explicit teaching doesn’t need to be ‘teacher telling’ and doesn’t need to start the lesson. Sometimes the best place for explicit teaching is AFTER Sts have explored a concept/problem. I love using launch, explore, summarise. I also really love the term ‘intentional’ teaching.

Next Gen Contexts for Learning Mathematics
We cannot just hold up a model and assume that children see what we as adults see. The math is not in the model. The math is in the child’s head.

Manipulatives do not have meaning. We attribute meaning to them, based on our interactions with them. Need to ensure that Ss understand that one manipulative can be used to represent many concepts. Is it about creativity & diversity in thinking.
