In Ireland, we all know someone whose life has unfortunately been touched by cancer. However, we also know someone who has felt the full benefits of the life-changing work that the Irish Cancer Society does, every single day. Ahead of this year’s Daffodil Day, I was delighted to meet with Irish Cancer Society CEO Nikki Gallagher, to discuss cancer care in Carlow and Kilkenny. The Irish Cancer society have set a target of €6 million to be raised this year, so I would encourage everyone to go out and support Daffodil Day today. I will continue to support this incredible charity by advocating for enhanced cancer screening services over the coming months, by raising awareness of their work, and by wearing my daffodil with pride. #carlow #kilkenny #daffodilday #irishcancersociety

✅ Carlow County Council are leading from the front when it comes to tackling vacant and derelict properties across County Carlow with a particular focus on providing town centre older persons housing for older people who currently live alone in family sized homes which in turn frees up 2,3 & even 4 bedroom homes for families. However, the costs involved in preparing vacant sites for buiding can sometimes be significant due to, for example, asbestos removal, utility upgrades etc - in the construction industry these often unforeseen costs are known as "abnormals" and they add significantly to the overall cost of construction. While central Government currently provides up to 98% funding to local authorities to build social homes there is no dedicated funding for abnormals so their costs must be absorbed by allocated construction budgets. This means, in short, Carlow Co Co cannot build as many homes as they would like to with their construction budget. That’s why in the Dáil today I asked for central government funding for abnormals to allow Carlow Co Co to get on with the ambitious plans they have to turn derelict properties across the county into homes for the people of Carlow Town and county. I will continue to fight for an increased supply of housing for the young and old in Carlow Town and County. #carlow #kilkenny #housing #vacancy #dereliction

A great night of celebration with Grange GFC last night as they celebrated the football club year of 2025. Congratulations to John Murphy who received an award for his outstanding contribution to the Intermediate team of 2025. Comhghairdeas to all the very worthy award winners tonight. It was such a brilliant community night and there will be loads of photos on their club page in the coming days no doubt! Best wishes to everyone in Grange as they play in the senior championship in 2026 & I hope Kildavin Clonegal win Intermediate this year and join you all in Senior in 2027. Amongst many great speakers tonight was 9 times All Ireland winning James McCarthy who travelled from Ballymun to present the medals to the Intermediate team and brought a lot to proceedings. Thank you Grange GFC for a super night. Beir Bua in 2026.

I am delighted at the news today that Minister for Defence @HMcEntee has brought proposals to cabinet for military attachés to be appointed to the Irish embassies in Paris, London and Washington DC. Military people speak to military people in a military way, and today’s announcement is particularly welcome in light of a rapidly changing global security situation. This is something that I have been calling for at the Committee on National Security and Defence for some time, and I look forward to the development of this pilot programme. #militaryattaches #military #nationalsecurity #nationaldefence

What a wonderful afternoon in Carlow, as Minister James Browne TD opened the new housing units on Barrack Street. Following on from this, the sod was turned on the Carlow Railway Link Project at Carlow College, St. Patrick's, an exciting new development under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund. The day was wrapped up with a visit to Woodlawn Developments' site in Montgomery Street, where an enormous amount of hard work is being done to boost Carlow’s housing supply. #carlow #kilkenny #housing #barrackstreet

This time 2 years ago, I was working as an SNA. I know SNAs by their nature, are kind, caring and helpful. Circular 30/2014 on the role of an SNA is being updated, and the parameters upon which allocations are decided that come from that update must be reflective of the needs that are present in a modern Irish classroom. #carlow #kilkenny #sna #snas #specialneedsassistants #schoolsupports

I was deeply humbled by, and very grateful for, an unexpected surprise this past week when PDFORRA presented me with a beautiful statue of an Irish Volunteer. I was actually stuck for words as I am just doing my job while the members PDFORRA represent are the ones who are exemplary individuals worthy of praise and recognition 🙌 The Irish Defence Forces originated as the Irish Volunteers which was founded in 1913. The official title as Gaeilge as we know is Óglaigh na hÉireann which translates to Irish Volunteers. I am deeply honoured I have to say and this beautiful statue is now displayed with pride beside my desk in Leinster House - it will guide me on my journey of service to this State. I love my job. I will continue to work hard for as long as you'll have me as your TD. My position is never one I take for granted and I am very grateful to the people of Carlow and Kilkenny for your support. As always please get in touch if I can help in any way. Catherine. #pdforra #óglaighnahéireann #irishdefenceforces

A huge comhghairdeas to everyone in Tullow Livestock Sales on the occasion of their 70th Anniversary yesterday. There was a great buzz throughout the mart & no end of good stories of times past. Eric did a great job as master of ceremonies, ablely supported by Hannah, Josh and team. The food as always was plentiful & delicious thanks to Marie Jackman and her team from Jackman Catering. It was lovely to see her Mam there too yesterday. Former Mart Manager John Murphy was everywhere! I am always amazed by his energy and pure love for the place! John knows everyone and everyone knows him. He was joined by former manager Pat Farrell and many other familiar faces who have helped make Tullow Mart the success it has been since 1956. The most special guests of honour were Eamon & Kyran O Byrne who were present at the very first mart sales and still sit as Mart Directors alongside Pat Dawson and John Brophy. A very, very special occasion and I was delighted to be present. Wishing Tullow Livestock Sales continued success for another 70 years and more 👏 👏 👏 #tullow #tullowmart #tullowlivestocksales #carlow

✅ A thoroughly enjoyable morning into the afternoon spent in Casement Aerodrome with the @IrishAirCorps as part of my work as a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Defence and National Security. A trip down memory lane for me as I first walked in those gates as a 17 year old to begin my recruit training prior to my avionics apprenticeship! I was so happy to have met up with some dear friends who are still serving our country with pride and professionalism. My gratitude to GOC Air Corps Brigadier General Rory O'Connor, DCOS Sp Major General Colm Ó Luasa and everyone who contributed to the detailed briefings we received today. It is most helpful in our ongoing committee work. Here's to our ongoing collaboration for the current and future benefit of our Air Corps and our State. Forfaire agus Tairiseacht
