2024 has seen the highest number of deaths at Spain's borders, with 10,457 people having died or disappeared trying to reach Spanish territory this year. The vast majority of these victims (9.757) were trying to reach the Canary Islands as the EU-sponsored crackdown in the central Med, and the war in Mali, forced tens of thousands of people to risk their lives on the Atlantic ocean.
