@bellacaledonia Overtourism is crippling places like Skye. Beneath its “iconic” image lies a quieter crisis—housing shortages, cultural loss, and identity erosion—driven by relentless tourism and second-home ownership. Not all damage is visible, but it’s deeply felt

The problems of over-tourism, the total extraction of the highlands as a resource and undermining of local resources and infrastructure will have a reckoning. It's. Unsustainable.
Martin MacDonald@Innealadair

@bellacaledonia @_JamieMcIntyre As an aside, the roads here in Lochalsh and Skye are very bad with snow including the A87 all the way back to the Bunloyne Junction. Cars off the road, people stranded and turning back. Not helped with by the amount of holiday traffic.

Women ♀ have held centre stage in historical land struggles and they very much continue to do so into modern Scottish land reform. Here, Grace Wright from the Isle of Skye feeds inspiration from archives into the land struggles of today: archive.org/details/plotti… @CatherineMacP12

@HighlandLT For me this isn’t about nationality. It’s about imperial powers: systemic physical, structural, and cultural violence used during clearances to establish, maintain, and expand control over people and land. An area am still learning and exploring through conversations, reading

@CatherineMacP12 Very interesting article. Can I ask about the assertion you make of the clearances being an act of “colonial violence”. The clearances were largely inflicted by highlanders on other highlanders, so how would that be colonial?
