Canadian steel needs action now. Our producers need the Government of Canada to stand up strong against the United States' 50 per cent tariff on Canadian steel, while stopping dumping with stronger measures at the border and supporting steel workers by championing our domestic transformation. We are ready, willing and able to build Canada's future nation-building projects and continue to support the many industries that our producers feed, but we need immediate action to ensure we will be here to achieve that.

Correct @lherman8. Our existing trade tools are insufficient to address this threat. We need strong border measures immediately to protect steel workers and our industry.

What 🇨🇦 now has to deal with is the impending diversion of unfairly priced foreign imports. It will happen. Regrettably, our trade remedy laws are not the most effective or efficient vehicle for countering this looming threat. @Catherine_CSPA @CdnChamberofCom @cme_mec

@FP_Champagne Thank you Minister for defending our industry from baseless tariff threats. These tariffs, if enacted would cause significant disruption on both sides of border. Canada has done more than any other to work with common purpose with the US against the challenges of unfair trade.

In a meeting with Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister Hon. @VictorFedeli and the Canadian Steel Producers Association @CSPA_ACPA we discussed Ontario’s steel industry, global sector trends, and competitive challenges. Ontario is the steel hub of the country accounting for over 70% of Canada’s steelmaking capacity. Our government is committed to working with steel industry to help improve its global competitiveness.
