The scandal-plagued priest Father Marko Rupnik is accused of serial abuse of multiple forms. Now he is reportedly set to be possibly acquitted at the close of a Vatican investigation which was instigated over two and a half years ago. But what is happening in the secretive case? ✍️ @MLJHaynes thecatholicherald.com/article/could-…

JUST IN: Could Father Rupnik be acquitted? @messainlatino reports it is likely: “We have learned from persistent and highly credible sources that the criminal trial currently underway in the Vatican against Father Marko Ivan Rupnik has reportedly concluded with a favorable outcome for him.” The Vatican re-opened an investigation into Rupnik in October 2023. He is accused of serially sexually & spiritually abusing male & female victims, including nuns. The credibility of the well-documented allegations of Rupnik’s abuse is deemed to be “very high” by his former Jesuit superiors. DDF Prefect Cardinal Fernández defended the slow state of the trial last summer, saying other cases were “perhaps more serious but less publicized”

The great metropolis of New York owes its name not to the English city but to James, Duke of York, whose ships sailed into the harbour and seized New Amsterdam from the Dutch in 1664. Within just a few years of that conquest, James – brother to King Charles II – had converted to Catholicism, and he ruled his new province from England as a personal proprietary colony, just as Lord Baltimore ruled Maryland. In 1683, he appointed an Irishman and a fellow Catholic, Thomas Dongan, as governor of New York. ✍️ @cusackandrew thecatholicherald.com/article/thomas…

Safe, legal and rare was the promise of pro-abortion campaigners and politicians as Ireland became the first country to legalise abortion through a popular vote in 2018. However, as the statistics show, it is anything but rare, with one in six pregnancies in Ireland ending in abortion in 2025. ✍ Ruadhan Jones Article | thecatholicherald.com/article/irelan…

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has responded to the Society of Saint Pius X’s episcopal consecrations by urging renewed dialogue and arguing that wider access to the traditional Mass could help address long-standing tensions. ✍ @MLJHaynes Article | thecatholicherald.com/article/cordil…

Papal holiday won’t put the lid on bubbling tensions. Pope Leo’s summer recess at Castel Gandolfo has brought calm to the Vatican, but the SSPX’s appeal and renewed debate over ‘Traditionis Custodes’ threaten to disturb the lull. ✍️ @MLJHaynes thecatholicherald.com/article/papal-…
