Today we had the opportunity to support the Special Olympics at the Oneida Shores Polar Plunge at Oneida Lake. Officers Kirill Karandeyev, Rich DeMaio, Alan Jayne, James Dennis, and Sheriff Schenck took the 34 degree plunge into the lake for this great cause.

Recent gun legislation in NYS effective September 1 makes “NO CARRY” the default for private property unless deemed permissible by property owners. Property owners who allow concealed carry will have to disclose with signage indicating concealed carry is allowed on the premises.

Today Deputy Thurston was recognized with a written commendation for her outstanding performance in pursuing those that drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs, having made three driving while intoxicated arrests in the month of June alone. Thank you Deputy Thurston!
This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the loss of Cayuga County Sheriff's Sergeant Vincent Spinelli. Sergeant Spinelli passed away after an altercation with an inmate in the Cayuga County Jail. Thank you for your service Sgt. Spinelli. May you forever rest in peace.
Our campers arrived back from the New York State Sheriff’s Summer Camp. They had a great time this past week as did Deputy Thurston and Deputy Kelly who joined them on Keuka Lake. Great job Sgt. Ross, Deputy Thurston, and Deputy Kelly for making this camping experience possible.

We were able to send 12 campers from Cayuga County to the NY State Sheriff’s Summer Camp on Keuka Lake in Yates County. We wish our campers a great week as they enjoy a great camping experience made possible by those in our community that support our NYS Sheriffs' Institute!
