Sounds promising, but needs detail. For example, the definition given for “pimping” would endanger the sex worker’s children, spouses, and coworkers.

Having read the bill a couple of times, I support it, but it’s got some MAJOR problems. In addition to the problematic definition of pimping, it creates Scarlet Letters. Public doxing of both clients and sex workers; 29-11.8-112. Duties of escort bureau. The escort bureau shall provide to each escort patron a written contract for services. The contract MUST clearly state the name and address of the escort and customer, the type of services… (etc: $, time, special requests)… The contract shall MUST be signed by the escort patron and a copy furnished to him or her THE PATRON. The escort bureau shall also retain copies of all such contracts, and THE ESCORT BUREAU SHALL TRANSMIT one copy of each such contract executed in any calendar month shall be transmitted by the escort bureau to the local licensing authority no later than ten days after the last day of such the month. The local licensing authority shall treat such THE contracts transmitted to them as open public records. So they’re making the legal (presumably ) name of both the client and the escort public records!

@Serene_Necrosis That kind of discretion in enforcement in other countries has lead police to tell landlords “If you don’t evict her immediately then you’re a pimp, running a brothel. We’ll be back tomorrow to check”. I need to read the language of the bill.

@CdrSpr In the Colorado legal system, it would be up to the Attorney General, a politician subject to public pressure, to write the policies of enforcement.

Full decrim would be awesome. From the article; “Pimping, defined as living on or being supported by money earned by another person through sexual activity, would remain a class three felony.” Depending on the exact wording of the law, which I haven’t read yet, that definition of pimping could potentially cover spouses, landlords, anybody who provides services to the escort (advertising, drivers, bank, even beauty shops or children).

@CdrSpr It wouldn't endanger spouses, because the income is going into a single taxable entity: the household. It would illegalize boyfriends from mooching & require them to marry their sex-worker partners, or else get a job or become a registered recipient of disability benefits.

IRS claims they never operated it, but they raided it and the business was still operating, left a couple of people there to count the incoming cash, they appointed an administrator to run it, so the claimed it wasn’t them. When the bankruptcy went thru, they owned it lock stock and barrel.

@ingodwetryst @JupitersArmy I subscribed to the IPO. Eventually the money was returned. Usually, the IPO entitled you to a Leroy Newman print. IRS claimed the workers were employees, so the Ranch should have been withholding Socisl Secuity-for years. With penalties and interest, it bankrupted them.
