American AI software prices have jumped 20% to 37%, and GitHub (owned by Microsoft) is dropping flat-rate plans for usage-based billing across its products. My Take The AI subsidy era is ending in real time. The same company that put $13 billion into OpenAI and built the Azure infrastructure powering most of Anthropic's compute just looked at the bill from a competitor's coding tool and decided it was not worth paying. That is not a productivity failure on Anthropic's end. Token-based pricing is forcing every enterprise customer to confront the actual cost of running these models at scale, and the number turns out to be far higher than the flat-rate experiments suggested. This ties directly to my Gemini Flash post yesterday. Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google all raised effective prices in the last six months. Enterprises that built workflows assuming AI costs would keep falling are now watching annual budgets evaporate in months. Two outcomes look likely from here. Either enterprises scale back AI usage to fit budgets, which slows the revenue ramp the labs need to justify their valuations ahead of IPOs, or the labs cut prices and absorb the losses, which makes the unit economics worse at exactly the wrong moment. Both paths land in the same place, the numbers stop working, and somebody has to take the writedown. Hedgie🤗

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.

Es flößt mir schon fast Respekt, mit welcher Geschwindigkeit Katharina Reiche alle Menschen in ihrem Umfeld gegen sich aufgebracht hat. Sogar ihre vermeintlichen "Fans" aus der Gaslobby wenden sich von ihr ab, weil sie so eine dermaßen schlechte Arbeit macht, dass man nicht mehr mit ihr in Verbindung gebracht werden will. Das gibt mir allerdings Hoffnung. Im aktuellen Energiezone Podcast mit Ilan Momber ᴾʰᴰ💡🌍 habe ich gewettet, dass sie bis zur nächsten Aufnahme im Mai nicht mehr im Amt ist. Nicht mal ihre Mitarbeiter halten noch zu ihr und liefern ihr keine Argumente mehr für eine vollkommen blödsinnige Strategie, mit der sie günstige Energieformen ausbremsen will und teure Formen mit hohen Importabhängigkeiten (u.a. Russland & USA) fördern will. In den letzten Tagen hat ihr sagenumwobener Artikel aus der FAZ die Runde gemacht, dessen Argumente von einer einfachen ChatGPT-Abfrage zerlegt werden. Dabei ist das Problem, was sie lösen will (Das Energiesystem ist in D zu teuer...), durchaus von den meisten Marktteilnehmern akzeptiert. Als sie gestern in der Bundespressekonferenz auf eine Frage zu ihren Gasinteressen von Tilo Jung stumpf mit "alternativen Fakten" geantwortet hat, dürften auch ihre letzten Mitarbeiter einen großen Bogen um sie machen. (link in den Kommentaren). Es reicht aber nicht mehr, wenn wir im Podcast oder Christian Stoecker in diversen Kolumnen ihre Politik kritisieren. Wenn sie noch nicht mal für ihre eigene Lobby tragbar ist, warum hält Friedrich Merz an ihr fest? Es dürfte nicht mehr lange dauern, dann wird sie auch aus den Archiven des Wirtschaftsrat der CDU e.V. gelöscht, in dem ich bisher sehr konstruktive und pragmatische Diskussionen zu Wirtschaftsthemen erlebt habe.
