So apparently, J.D. Vance flew to the Vatican to invite Pope Leo to the United States for America’s 250th birthday, but he declined and will instead spend July 4th standing with migrants. As a practicing Catholic, I can’t put into words how meaningful it is to watch the Church meet this moment with an American as pope.

@petersantilli This is the problem with our community. Yes we were proud to be in America. We came here for the same reason other immigrants came. For opportunity. Many people talk about being proud to assimilate. Assimilation was survival plain and simple.

I am the first-born generation of a family of Italian immigrants. My grandfather Giacinto Pascazio used to make it mandatory that our family spoke english at the dinner table when we'd all get together on Sunday's. To our family, America was the land of opportunity & we were proud to assimilate.
My grandfather would have considered Bad Bunny's no-english halftime show disrespectful, but then again, he used to hire Puerto Ricans to dig ditches & mix concrete by hand for peanuts. They weren't very well known for high skills, artistry, or architectural math knowledge.

Italian American culture has been marred by racism for so long that people miss the point in bringing out Lady Gaga to remind the world that immigrants not only speak Spanish but they also once only spoke Italian and were deemed inferior

@AnthonySabatini I always find it interesting when someone's last name ends in a vowel, they forget our grandparents or in my case parents were their generations unwanted. It's sad.
