I started building this for myself to get better AI feedback on political science research. After seeing @claesbackman’s econ-focused repo, I pushed it further into PoliSci Review: a journal-aware, LaTeX-first skill for political science drafts.

V1 covers APSR, AJPS, JOP, BJPS, PA, International Security, JCR, and CPS. You can also run it without a target journal if you just want more general feedback on a draft, or specify a track like methods, quant, qual, formal, or mixed.

I built it because I wanted a better way to catch weak spots in my own drafts while writing and revising, not just once they were ready to circulate. The aim was to get less generic, more structured AI feedback. Open source here: github.com/cmertdalli/pol…

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez on Iran: Twenty-three years ago, another US administration dragged us into a war in the Middle East. A war that, in theory, it was said at the time, was being fought to eliminate Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, bring democracy and ensure global security. But which in reality, seen in perspective, produced the opposite effect, it unleashed the greatest wave of insecurity that our continent has suffered since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Iraq War generated a drastic increase in jihadist terrorism, a serious migration crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and a generalized increase in energy prices.

Parenti’s legacy is not only what he argued about power, but what he demanded of the discipline itself: look at how we draw boundaries, reward careers, and decide which questions count. Few pushed that critique from inside top journals, and fewer did so at such personal cost.

In that memoir, he describes how, despite strong faculty support, the U of Vermont trustees and state legislators moved to let his contract expire, citing “unprofessional conduct” linked to his anti-war activity. It was a concrete case of professionalism operating as a boundary.

Beyond being a Marxist critic of capitalism, the Vietnam War, and U.S. anti-communism, Michael Parenti was one of the rare political scientists who directly critiqued the discipline’s depolitisation from the inside, in leading venues like APSR and PS since the 1970s. Thread ⬇️
