As part of our commitment to build and operate the most resilient coastal grid in the nation and to continue preparing for the 2026 hurricane season, CenterPoint Energy conducted a full‑scale Hurricane Preparedness Exercise today at our Emergency Operations Center. Thank you to the 400+ CenterPoint team members and partners who participated in today’s all‑day exercise, focused on emergency coordination, system restoration planning and customer communications. The exercise also included approximately 100 observers, including state and local officials, emergency managers, business leaders and community stakeholders. Their participation supports shared readiness, coordination and situational awareness, helping position CenterPoint and those involved to respond and serve our customers safely and efficiently when severe weather impacts our communities.

Helping our communities stay ready starts long before a storm arrives. With hurricane season beginning June 1, we’ve connected with customers at community events across the Greater Houston area to share preparedness tips and updates on the work underway to strengthen the grid, including recent events in The Woodlands, Baytown, Pasadena, Spring Branch and Montgomery County. Community outreach will continue through June in other counties, and with plans in place, we’re prepared to respond while helping customers stay informed and ready when severe weather hits.

Ahead of last night's intense storms, we activated our Emergency Operations Center and pre-positioned crews to respond to any impacts. We know how important reliable power is, and teams began restoration work as soon as it was safe to do so. Approximately 97% of our 2.9 million customers were not impacted by an outage, with just about 1% experiencing an interruption at any one time. As of 4 p.m., essentially all customers who can safely receive power have been restored and less than 500 customers remain without power due to the storms. Crews will continue working to restore those remaining outages safely and as quickly as possible. We appreciate our customers’ patience during our restoration efforts. 🔗 Read more about our response: ow.ly/Y9l850YXTlA

Crews were pre-positioned ahead of the severe weather that moved through Greater Houston overnight and began responding to outages as soon as it was safe to do so. While more than 97.5% of our 2.9 million customers were not impacted, we know even one outage is too many and crews will continue working until service is fully restored. We appreciate your patience as this work continues.
