@Smooth_0n3 @EmilySm43 A condom or hormonal birth control reduces the risk more.

@EmilySm43 The risk of pulling out is something like 30% less likely when pulling out at least that's what they taught at Fedex..

@lucasvaugh91298 @EmilySm43 The people backing in don't look behind them. I'm not sure how that is better control.

@EmilySm43 Studies show it's safer, some people have taken defensive driving courses or were trained by people who have.
English

@gonefishin1948 @EmilySm43 The assumption to make that true is that the driver is paying attention when leaving, but the actual behavior of those who back in without checking their mirror makes that unlikely.

@EmilySm43 Many believe it's safer to leave when heading out rather than to back out.

@NoahKingJr Did Noah really build an Ark? Oh, that's more of a question for @grok.

@MarkDahler @tedcruz Israeli women have been killing enemies of Israel since 1948. They can handle it.
English

@tedcruz Israel allows men "identifying" as women to compete in women's sports. Best check with Israel prior to having an opinion.

@samrac92 At least 7. Are the ice cream scoops dots? Are the Os dots? Can we just agree that how many I see is a function of eyesight, attention, and definition so it may not be the same as how many you see?

Just noticed that @Ground_app (Ground News) rates @reason magazine as a centrist source. It's about time that people started recognizing core American political values as moderate discussion points. All the way back to Adams and Jefferson, there has been

@New_Common_Law @NewmanJ_R @JulieBorowski Rationality means maximicing utility given their beliefs. Incomplete information doesn't violate this - their beliefs are based on it. Responding to advertising isn't irrational. We money on other experiences because they give us satisfaction aka... utility. Ads are the same.
English

@NewmanJ_R @JulieBorowski >Fact that advertising affects consumer action suggests consumers are indeed irrational.
>One of reasons people make irrational decisions is because they know so little. Information shortages, asymmetries, etc. are pervasive, the norm really. The shirts are the same.
English

When I was studying economics, I learned that people are rational. But is that true? For example, I sell things on ebay. I have found that people will pay higher prices if you give them a bigger discount.
I get significantly more sales listing a shirt for $25 with a 20% discount vs. listing a shirt for $20 with a 10% discount- even though that's $2 cheaper.
Yes, that larger discount percentage gives people a happy dopamine rush. Perhaps they value that feeling more than $2. Does that make it rational behavior?
English

@JulieBorowski Does it maximize their utility? Economists don't claim that people are financial maximizers. The claim is that they are satisfaction maximizers.

@ksorbs I actually saw the (appropriately) outraged response to the news on Twitter, not the news itself. Stop watching MSNBC.
