The only reason 3MI is such a big thing is that the media was hounding for a story, and the PR team st 3MI and local government gave them one.

Not a single person was ever injured or killed. The reactor was quickly contained. The maximum radiation dose released was ~8 milirem, which is about the same as an x-ray. There has been zero lasting health effects. 3MI was a *success* story in meltdown containment and safety.
