It’s Day 2 of lectures at #SOMC24 and we start off the morning with @R_M_Edkins (@StrathChem) teaching the fundamentals of fluorescence, dyes and probes. 🌟✨✴️

Good news! 🎉 Thanks to @SULSAtweets for awarding me their ECR Development Prize! This will fund a research visit to @Columbia soon. Excited to work with @laahrs & investigate the chemical microenvironment of biofilm transport channels + some followup work at @UniStrathclyde.

Big welcome to new PhD students, @kay_polland & @mollliebrown, who started this week @PhysicsStrath. Kay will be developing new endoscopic imaging methods for clinical interventions. Mollie will be investigating membrane dynamics using 3D super-resolution imaging methods.

@CellJeffe @adam_k_glaser I agree. We've done something similar. In work relating to nature.com/articles/srep0… we used an interference filter to reflect fluorescence and transmit laser illumination (& vice versa). When the lens specimen was in either air or 4% BSA the filter performed as per the spec.

Question for other microscopists. Would a standard fluorescence filter still perform as spec'd if one or both sides were in contact with a media other than air?
