Bidding will open on Friday 10 April and close from 6pm (NZT) on Tuesday 14 April. “There have been a number of outstanding prospects come out of this online session, particularly in the past 24 months,” commented NZB Bloodstock Sales Manager Kane Jones. “Vendors are aiming quality yearlings towards this Sale and horses like the superstar Well Written and the incredibly promising De Armas are a real testament to that. “The quality of pedigrees assembled for the Sale continues to improve and there is no doubt that there are plenty of opportunities to secure some future stars in this year’s offering. “The Karaka Millions eligibility is another attractive incentive, with the Mega Maiden Bonus series giving buyers even more opportunity for a great return on investment” he added. River Breaks Maidens In Style with Impressive Harness Million Victory 🏆💸 #River (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) may have taken her time to score her maiden victory, but she did it in style at Alexandra Park last Friday night when taking out the $150,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million 3YO Fillies Final (2200m) for Bob Butt Racing Stables. 🎉 “She has been flying under the radar, she has always been a bit better than a maiden,” Butt said. “We set her for this race this time in and it paid off.” By champion sire Bettor’s Delight, River is a three-quarter sister to Belle Of Montana and a full-sister to Stella Rouge, and with a broodmare career in mind she was recently purchased off Jean Feiss, who had originally bought her out of Dancingonmoonlight’s 2024 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft for $80,000. 🤝 River quickly rewarded her new connections with a black-type result and Butt is hoping there is more to come for the filly. “Todd and Fleur Anderson bought her as a broodmare for when she finishes (racing) and everything is sort of a bonus, and this is a good bonus,” Butt said. Reid Aiming for Second Harness Million Double A lineup of ten quality three-year-olds will battle it out for the $200,000 Listed Harness Million Colts & Geldings (2200m) title this Friday at Alexandra Park, with the field including Group One winners #FreezeFrame (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) and #Allamericanplayer (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).💫 The most anticipated contender however is Champion Two-Year-Old #Jumal (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) for trainer Steven Reid, who is aiming for back-to-back successes once again in the Harness Million Series. During the 2023-24 season, Reid completed the Harness Million double with #CoastalBabe (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) and returned to the National Yearling Sale to outlay $95,000 for Jumal, purchased in 2024 from Beaudiene Breeding.🤝 Following Jumal’s recent Auckland winning debut in the Group Two Alabar Classic (2200m), Reid is cautiously optimistic that his pacer’s ability can back up another strong performance heading into Friday’s assignment. “When he arrived in Auckland last week, it took him a couple of days to settle in, and I wasn’t that confident heading into the race, but he handled it all like a pro.” “To me, he appears to have improved another leg since that run. He’s eating well, and he’s a very happy horse heading into this week, but you can never be too confident going into big races like this.” Drawn gate three, it won’t be an easy hand up for the $1.12 favourite. The $200,000 Harness Million Listed 3YO Colts & Geldings Pace (2200m) is scheduled for a start time of 9:07 pm on Friday at Alexandra Park. Highview Announce Unreserved Deplenishing Sale On-Farm 🐴👨🏼‍⚖️💥 Longstanding vendors @HighviewStud who have been selling yearlings since 1986, have announced the staging of an Unreserved Deplenishing Sale at its Hamilton property on Sunday 15 March 2026. NZB will conduct the Sale on-farm, which will offer approximately 50 lots consisting of yearlings, two-year-olds, racehorses, broodmares, mares with a foal at foot and more. “There’s a changing of the guard at Highview, with my son Kurtis now taking a more prominent leadership role,” commented Highview’s Brent Gillovic. “We’ve accumulated a lot of horses so this is a genuine reduction process to trim the operation back to around 30 to 40 mares before I hand over the reins. “We have held a couple of these deplenishing sales previously back in the early 2000s which were quite successful. “While it goes against the trend in today’s day and age, for us it is just easier to manage this many horses in one go, here onsite, and sell them all in one hit. “We’ve got a number of sires represented including some nice young horses by the likes of Wrote, Santos, Divine Prophet, Sword of State, Xtravagant, Hello Youmzain, Sweynesse, Vadamos and more. “There will be something for everyone. At the end of the day, our main goal is to find these horses good homes, we’re not expecting the world for them. “It will be a nice Sunday afternoon, with plenty of opportunity for everyone.” The Highview Unreserved Deplenishing Sale will see around 50 thoroughbreds for sale, conducted from 1pm at Highview Stud, 1544 Kakaramea Road, Hamilton, with gates open at 10am. The catalogue will be available to view online at nzb.co.nz by late February, while printed catalogues will be available on the day. Stellar Summer Sale Closes out Karaka 2026 🎉 The final session of NZB’s 100th National Yearling Sale took place at Karaka on Thursday, with a strong inaugural Karaka Summer Sale.🌞 112 yearlings sold for a total aggregate of more than $3.4 million at an average of $30,612. Six lots sold for $100,000 or more which added to a solid clearance rate of 81%. NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook was elated for all those involved in the historic week. "To sum it up, this week we've turned over $9.6 million more than last year, with 79 less horses catalogued." "We're just over the moon, seeing these results from the new format. "The Karaka Summer Sale today was one of the strongest sessions, almost matching Book 2 results from last year. "It's just been a phenomenal week all around, celebrating such a big milestone in New Zealand thoroughbred history, and returning almost $96 million back to breeders. "Our vendors have done an incredible job presenting their yearlings, our buyers supporting the Sale so well and our whole NZB team who have all contributed to its success. The top lot of the day came when first time vendor Stew McGregor offered his sole yearling. The colt by emerging sire Armory out of Satono Aladdin mare Hanako (Lot 958), was knocked down to John Foote Bloodstock for $130,000. 🙌 “We’re so, so thrilled,” commented an emotional McGregor. The well-known Waikato Hunt member praised his surrounding stud farms for all their help. “Dean Hawkins, Windsor Park Stud and others around me have been instrumental in helping me along the way,” added McGregor. “It’s a team sport, alright.” The leading vendor by aggregate and average for the Karaka Summer Sale was Westbury Stud who sold seven lots for $432,000 at an average of $61,714. Attention now turns to the National Online Yearling Sale, where superstar filly Well Written (Written Tycoon) was purchased for $80,000. Set to take place on Gavelhouse Plus, with bidding closing from 6pm on 14 April. Entries open early February via NZB’s portal. Read the full press release here 📰: nzb.co.nz/news/stellar-s…

For me, the best statistic to measure the success of the @KarakaChat 100th National Yearling Sale (Book One) is this: Turnover exceeded last year by $3.5m despite cataloguing 94 fewer horses.

Bartlett’s New Beginnings Ahead of 2026 Yearling Sale 🐴 She may be only twenty-four, but Jamie Bartlett has made a strong impression on the standardbred industry and is now presenting her first draft of yearlings at the upcoming NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale under her JB Bloodstock banner. 18 yearlings make up JB Bloodstock’s 2026 draft, with the emerging horsewoman backed by owners such as @YabbyDamFarms , Mason Bloodstock and @Alabarfarms. “Graeme Henley has always supported me, and if it wasn’t for him, my parents and my partner, I would not have made that final step to go out under my own banner.” I’ve been really impressed by the trotters. I’m learning quite a lot about the breed. They are very lovely athletic types of horses, and easy to do anything with,” she added. Set to be located at Barn F at Karaka, the first-time vendor is looking forward to the experience. “There’s obviously a little bit of pressure being my first time as a preparer, but that is expected.” Read the full story here 📰: nzbstandardbred.co.nz/news/bartlett-… View JB Bloodstock's draft here👉🏻: nzbstandardbred.co.nz/sales/search?s…
